Early career researchers (ECR) definition

Health care professionals in training posts or within 5 years of appointment to substantive (or equivalent) positions (excluding career breaks, and extended pro rata for those in less than full time work). Special consideration will be given to those who can demonstrate that they were only able to take up research opportunities later in their career. The term healthcare professionals includes, but is not limited to: radiographers; psychologists; occupational therapists; physiotherapists; genetic counsellors; clinical pharmacists; biomedical scientists; dentists; doctors; nurses; health, public health or social care professionals; midwifery; and allied health professionals. The inclusion of the “later in their career” clause allows the network to include “research returners” in this approach, something that all our specialties considered important.
