Staff working in informatics use areas of computer science including software tools that generate useful biological knowledge by manipulating ‘big data’.
Informatics in healthcare science is broken down into three unique areas:
- Clinical Bioinformatics (Genomics) – Staff in this area will help to inform the best treatment for a patient based on their unique genetic make-up.
- Clinical Bioinformatics (Health Informatics) – Staff in this area ensure that bioinformatics data is used efficiently and to required standards.
- Clinical Bioinformatics (Physical Science) – Staff in this area design the equipment, software and algorithms that process clinical and genetic data.
