Equality and diversity

Equality means ensuring everyone in your department has equal opportunities regardless of your ability, background or lifestyle.

Diversity means appreciating the differences between people and treating people’s values, beliefs, cultures and lifestyles with respect.

Under the Equality Act 2010, all NHS Trusts must:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • advance equality of opportunity between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it

This also means treating all patients that you come into contact with fairly and equally, with respect for their personal values, beliefs, cultures and lifestyles.

The School has an STP Trainee Black Asian and Minority Ethic network that you are welcome to join by emailing bamestptrainees@gmail.com. The School also has an equality, diversity and inclusion committee, made up of School staff and a member of the STP Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Network. The committee was set up with the intention to promote and share good practice of equality and diversity in all areas of our work.

The School is in the process of deciding on the training resources that will be made available to all trainees and training officers as part of their equality and diversity training. In the interim please use these online resources from Skills for Care on equality and diversity.
