Additional information from employer: We are an established training centre. Since the start of the STP scheme in 2011 we have welcomed 39 trainee physicists into LTHT. Many of our trainees stay in Leeds and become part of the permanent staff. Trainees are normally trained in pairs during the rotation and are then trained singly in their rotations. As a large teaching hospital trust we have 2 research linacs and an x-ray training room to allow the training of physicists outside of normal clinical hours. There is a dedicated training officer who has 0.4 wte dedicated to running the scheme. Trainees are normally provided with personal laptops to help completion of the scheme which can be used in the Trust and offsite.

Travel information: Trainees are based at Leeds General Infirmary during their rotations for Non-ionising Imaging and Radiation Safety, and at St James’s University Hospital for Radiotherapy. For Ionising Imaging, the trainees will be based at both hospitals depending on the supervisor. There is a free staff shuttle bus between the two sites, and between the main hospitals and peripheral hospitals at Chapel Allerton, Wharfedale and Seacroft.

In the first year of training the trainee will spend the first three months at King’s College London completing MSc modules. ORLAU’s clinical services cover gait analysis, orthotics and assistive technologies including FES. Trainees gain expertise in biomechanics and engineering design. We have a well-equipped gait lab and on-site workshop facilities.
