Additional information from employer: The cardiology diagnostic department at SWBH NHS Trust is currently split over two hospital sites, City Hospital and Sandwell Hospital, and you will be expected to work at both of these sites. The Trust’s brand-new hospital, the Midland Metropolitan, will be opening in 2022.
We perform physiologist led: stress echo, contrast, bubble, TOE, valve and Herceptin clinics. We also provide complex CRM implant and follow up and are currently in the process of developing a physiologist led ILR implantation service, as well as a Tilt service.
Our City site has two Catheter labs, offering the latest invasive techniques, as well as primary angioplasty. We have strong links with neighbouring hospitals if you were interested in viewing some surgical procedures.
Our department is currently IQIPS and BSE accredited. In addition, we are an accredited centre for STP training and have guided three trainees through the process to date. Two are now permanent members of our team and are very willing to share their wealth of knowledge and experience of the process.
We have weekly review and teaching meetings attended by one or more consultants, registrars, cardiac physiologists and junior staff. All physiologists are encouraged to attend relevant course/meetings, as continued professional development is important to our team.
Travel information: All rotations with the exception of the vascular element will be based at Sandwell or City Hospital. There is a free shuttle bus that can be used to travel between sites. The vascular rotation will be based at the QE hospital in Birmingham which is situated approximately 30 minutes drive from City Hospital. Links are excellent via rail too. The main base for training will be City Hospital.
