You will need to ensure you have a quiet space free of interruptions such as children, pets and doorbells and be of a professional appearance. Generally, this means smart, office-style clothing. Ensure you are familiar with the job description and person specification. Refresh yourself of what you wrote in your application on how you met those requirements. Think about what type of questions you may be asked and prepare some thoughts on how you might answer them. You may wish to hold a mock interview with a friend or family member. Prepare some questions to ask the panel if time allows, however, be careful not to ask for information that has already been provided or discussed during the interview. We would suggest having a glass of water with you at your interview, so if you need a bit of time to think while answering a question, you can take a sip of water, which will also help to relax your nerves. If you need a bit of time to think of the best answer, please do so.
The panel may also be silent while they write notes – this is nothing to worry about. Be aware of your body language. Try to be as professional, motivated, interested and confident as possible. Be open and honest, if you do not know the answer then let the panel know. The panel are experienced interviewers who will know if you do not know the answer. And finally, be enthusiastic but don’t constantly interrupt the panel.
Technology requirements for the interview
For your interview, you will need access to a computer, tablet or smartphone that has Microsoft teams, with the camera and microphone enabled, together with a stable internet connection. We would highly recommend that you conduct a test run of Microsoft Teams with a friend, colleague or family member to ensure there are no technical difficulties on the day. The associate member of the recruitment team on the day will talk you through any technical issues. It may be that you will need to leave the meeting and then reconnect. If this happens, please do not panic and follow the instruction of the nominated member of the recruitment team. The employer and the School are aware that technical difficulties can occur, and we will work with you to resolve the issue.
Please join the interview promptly. We would recommend at least ten minutes before the interview time. Please ensure your camera and microphone are enabled. When you join the meeting, you will be place in the ‘lobby’. Once the panel are ready, you will be admitted from the ‘lobby’ into the interview. Once you join the meeting, please ensure you introduce yourself. And finally, please do not use the chat function during the interview unless you are prompted to do so for example in the event of technical issues.
