Clinical Immunology

Immunology is the study of the immune system and the immune system is how all animals, including humans, protect themselves against diseases.

Clinical Scientists working in immunology help to diagnose, monitor and treat patients with a range of immune system disorders, including:

  • Allergies
  • Autoimmune disorders, where the body’s defence system attacks itself (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Primary immunodeficiency – where part of the immune system is missing or doesn’t function as it should
  • Antibody deficiency
  • Cancers
