This 12 month programme, developed by the National School of Healthcare Science, supports upskilling of the existing workforce in genomics laboratories. Its aim is to increase and retain expertise and flexibility within the workforce in genomic hubs, by providing professional and educational development for staff. It is aimed at existing Biomedical and Clinical Scientists as well as the Genetic Technologist workforce.
Programme content
The programme is a combination of academic content delivered by a university partner, and workplace learning and assessment. It utilises content from STP modules from different specialisms, created by the current genomics workforce and systems, covering the following areas:
- introduction to clinical bioinformatics and genetics
- the role of genomic testing in the diagnosis, classification, monitoring, and management of haematological malignancies
Funding
The Postgraduate Certificate in Haematology Genomics is supported by an NHS England Training Grant.
Applications
We expect the programme to be available from 2026. Applications will need to be made via regional NHS England healthcare science commissioning teams.
