This 12 month programme, developed by the National School of Healthcare Science, supports upskilling of the existing workforce in histopathology and genomics laboratories. Its aim is to increase and retain expertise and flexibility within the workforce in genomic hubs, by providing professional and educational development for staff. It is aimed at existing Biomedical Scientists as well as the Genetic Technologist workforce.
Programme content
The programme is a combination of academic content delivered by a university partner, and workplace learning and assessment. It utilises content from existing STP modules, plus new content developed by the current histopathology and genomics workforce, covering the following areas:
- managing and preparing histopathology samples for genomic testing
- interpreting genomic histopathology results
Funding
The Postgraduate Certificate in Haematology Genomics is supported by an NHS England Training Grant.
Applications
We expect the programme to be available from 2026. Applications will need to be made via regional NHS England healthcare science commissioning teams.
