Role title: Assessment Content Writer

Reports to: The School and the Lead Assessment Content Writer

About the role

The purpose of the role is to contribute scientific expertise to the development of assessment content for the STP Final Year Assessment to enable robust and valid assessment of the specialty STP. Assessment Content Writers will be required draw on their expertise of practice and knowledge of the specialty STP curriculum to contribute to the development of an assessment content bank. Role holders will be required to engage with a specialty assessment content writing group lead by the Lead Assessment Content Editor and facilitated by the School, and the School assessment processes.

As the STP Final Year Assessment is a high stakes assessment, Assessment Content Writers are required to maintain confidentiality of assessment content at all stages of the development process.

Skills and experience

Assessment Content Writers should:

  • have at least 2 years post registration experience of practice in the specialty
  • be currently practicing in the specialty, or actively practicing within the last 3 years of undertaking the role

and/or

  • have contemporary knowledge of practice in the specialty, in particular the standards and expectations of practice for a newly registered Clinical Scientist
  • have experience of assessing healthcare professionals at this level
  • be involved in the delivery of the STP specialty
  • have a flexible and co-operative approach to work and working with colleagues

Time committment

Assessment Content Writers are engaged for each cycle of assessment content development, which will be completed periodically.

Each assessment content development cycle will typically require:

  • approximately 2 days to meet with the specialty assessment content writing group to develop and review content, split over a number of meetings
  • additional time to write and review assessment content

Expenses

Where role holders are expected to attend in-person meetings hosted by the School, the School will reimburse travel in line with theĀ School expenses process and policy.
