Essential

  • Up-to-date knowledge of their profession and of working in the healthcare science environment, including current knowledge of working practices, legislation and policy.
  • Appropriate statutory or voluntary registration covering the scientific subject area they are assessing.
  • Exceed the level of occupational competence required for the apprenticeship standard they are assessing.
  • Up-to-date evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Undergo End Point Assessment assessor training provided by the National School of Healthcare Science End Point Assessment team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, including the use of scientific terminology.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Understand the relevant Healthcare Science Apprenticeship standard and apply specific knowledge of the theme/specialism for the role they are assessing.
  • To use a range of innovative methods and techniques in assessment, including pursuing digital and modern methods of delivery.
  • To aid in the development of assessment materials, methods and approaches and contribute to the design and content of specific areas of assessment within the End Point Assessment Organisation’s service.
  • Maintaining appropriate and accurate records, as required by relevant End Point Assessment standard.
  • Work collaboratively with the End Point Assessment team to aid the facilitation of assessment scheduling.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Conduct an efficient and supportive End Point Assessment using good written and verbal skills to provide concise feedback and information to apprentices, employers and providers.
  • Produce clear, accurate and concise reports for assessments and quality assurance, including remarks, feedback and enquiries about results of assessments.
  • Adhere to assessment deadlines stipulated by the End Point Assessment Organisation.
  • Maintain confidentiality to secure the integrity of the assessment by not sharing any End Point Assessment documentation designed and used by the End Point Assessment Organisation with any other organisation or persons not directly involved in the delivery of the End Point Assessment.
  • Ensure all documentation or electronic records of the assessment are discarded in confidential waste bins and or deleted once the internal quality assurance checks have been completed by the End Point Assessment Organisation.
  • Adhere to OFQUAL Conditions of Recognition.
  • Adhere to the End Point Assessment Organisation’s regulations and processes, ensuring compliance at all times.
  • Declare any conflicts of interest that may arise, ensuring they are independent of the apprentice being assessed.
  • Undertake training on how to use the End Point Assessment management software utilised for assessment delivery and recording.
  • Attend and participate in annual standardisation/refresher training sessions as required by the End Point Assessment Organisation.
  • Participate in quality assurance requirements for the apprenticeship standard they are assessing.
  • Engage in continuous personal and professional development in line with the demands of the role, including undertaking relevant training and development activities to develop themselves and support the development of others.
  • Complete Equality and Diversity training and ensure that it is up to date, informing the End Point Assessment Organisation of expiry so further training can be arranged.
  • As representatives of the End Point Assessment Organisation, conduct the End Point Assessment in the expected professional manner, which should be reflected in their behaviour and attire.
  • To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably requested and that are commensurate with the nature of the post.
  • To engage in supporting and promoting the End Point Assessment Organisation’s quality assurance measures.
  • To undertake administration relevant to the needs of the role.
  • Ensure and promote the personal health, safety and wellbeing of staff and apprentices.
  • Carry out duties in a way which promotes fairness in all matters, and which engenders trust.

Further information

  • Assessments will be allocated to individuals as per their availability.
  • Assessors will be able to work regionally or nationally.
  • Assessors are expected to complete a minimum of 2 assessments a year (no maximum applies).
  • This is a paid position (£250 per assessment) with expenses incurred paid separately.
