Stakeholder feedback
Feedback collecting through the Curriculum Library survey collected between January 2024 and November 2025. All stakeholder feedback is presented verbatim.
S-HAI-R1 Introduction to Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics
Module aim
- My feedback is not about this rotation, but the list of rotations undertaken by H&I STPs. During curriculum review, we were not informed that Transfusion was being separated from Haematology by the facilitators from NSHCS. This means that H&I STPs have no transfusion experience at rotation level before they go into Specialist Transfusion in their Year 3 specialist Unit. I recommend that H&I drops the Haematology rotation and replaces it with the Transfusion rotation in Year 1. This should also work well for STPs in NHSBT H&I services. Fundamental haemopoiesis is already covered in HSCT, and Year 1 STPs would still be able to attend academic teaching in Year 1 for Haematology, since MMU made no alteration in their teaching content to increase the volume to 20 credits from 10 credits to account for the additional credit weighting, so whilst all other Blood Science rotations are taught over 5 days, Haematology and Transfusion are still only 3 days and 2 days respectively (this really should be picked up with the HEI too). I’m not clear why H&I STPs need know extensively about coagulation pathways or haemoglobinopathies or parasite infections from the Haematology, and would derive much greater benefit from the Transfusion rotation.
S-HAI-S1 Fundamentals of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics
- no feedback received
S-HAI-S2 Advanced Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics – Stem Cells
- no feedback received
Academic indicative content
- There is a change in terminology which needs updating in the curriculum. ‘Minimal residual disease’ has now been re-termed as ‘measurable residual disease’, and should be amended in the curriculum to keep it accurate.
S-HAI-S3 Advanced Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics – Solid Organ Transplantation and Transfusion
- no feedback received

Periodic review
This specialty curriculum requires significant change beyond the scope of an annual review.
Response – no
Rationale
Please provide an overview of the rationale for why the proposed changes are needed or why changes were not needed, with reference to stakeholder feedback.
Response
- The academic indicative content for S-HAI-S2 Advanced H&I: Stem Cells, will be changed to replace ‘minimal residual disease’ with ‘measurable residual disease’.
- The feedback received was reviewed and discussed, and it was agreed that no change would be made to the haematology module at the moment since the proposed changes need to be considered as part of a more thorough review of the curriculum with a wider group of stakeholders as part of a periodic review; this level of consideration is beyond the scope of an annual rolling review.
I confirm I have reviewed the Reflective Practice Guidance for ETAs and DTAs and have made any changes necessary.
