Public Engagement: a practical guide, is a major new guide on public engagement from Sense about Science. The guide, which was funded by the National Institute for Health Research, aims to help and encourage health researchers who need to involve the public in working out how to communicate findings; from the earliest stages of a project or the most challenging of subjects.

The guide highlights the five steps to take when involving the public in communicating research:

  • Scoping
  • Involving people
  • Planning
  • User-testing
  • Dissemination
