We were delighted to welcome the new STP trainees at our first induction event held yesterday at Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham. The event had such energy and buzz and it was great to see so many of the new cohort in attendance. They had an opportunity to hear from inspiring speakers including Beverly Searle, Chief Execute of Unique – Understanding Chromosome Disorders who gave a moving talk about the importance of putting the patient first.

Professor Sue Hill, Chief Scientific Officer and Fiona Carragher Deputy Chief Scientific Officer also gave uplifting and motivational talks on the role of healthcare scientists in the NHS and industry. Every trainee was issued with a new trainee handbook containing guidance and information about the STP; the handbook will be made available on the website for all trainees and training officers to access.

Thank you to trainee representatives from the School themed boards who led and supported the day by giving talks and chairing the day. It was great to hear your experiences and for you to be able to inspire the next cohort of trainees. The trainees also heard from John Hutchinson, Training Officer and Lead Cardiac Physiologist, Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust who talked about the role of the training officer on the STP. We would also like to say thank you to the Professional Bodies and Universities who also joined us in welcoming the new recruits.
