Message from your Training Programme Directors

Dr Lisa Ayers and Dr Owen Driskell

This month’s message is from Dr Lisa Ayers, Interim Head of School:

Welcome to the September Monthly Memo. September is a month of new starts for Healthcare Science training. Firstly, a massive welcome and congratulations to all the trainees joining programmes this month. We hope you enjoy this time attending Induction, getting to know your colleagues and fellow trainees, and starting the academic and workplace learning.

Thank you to all Training Officers and Supervisors for welcoming your new trainees and helping them to settle into the programmes. Your role is essential for the success of trainees and training within Healthcare Science as a whole. At the NSHCS we look forward to working with you over the coming years on your Healthcare Science training journey.

Annual review of progression

The Annual Review of Progression 2023 (ARP) for trainees on the HSST programme will open on Thursday 12 October at 9am and close at 5pm on Thursday 09 November 2023.

If you think you are unable to participate in ARP this year, please contact the School to confirm the reason for this by Friday 6 October 2023. Those who are out of training due to exceptional circumstances or statutory leave will be reviewed at the next ARP once they return to training.

As part of the process all trainees and workplace supervisors are required to complete an individual, separate online evaluation form pertaining to the trainee’s progress appropriate to the trainee’s stage on programme. Access to the applicable trainee or supervisor online form will only be made available on launch day, Thursday 12 October 2023.

Participation is a mandatory requirement for all HSST trainees in training years 2 – 5 and their workplace supervisors. Failure to participate puts future funding, accreditation, and participation for trainee and/or department on the programme at risk and will be reported to regional quality and commissioning teams.

We intend it to be a supportive and facilitative process so that we can assist with any barriers to progression and maximise your opportunity to be successful.

Outcomes from the review will be released to trainees and their workplace supervisors during week commencing 1 January 2024.
