Andrology – Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
The Andrology service at Birmingham Women’s Hospital is internationally recognised having been led by three WHO semen analysis manual editors. Our trainees and team members have gone on to lead labs and services across the world. The overarching Birmingham Women’s Fertility Centre integrates the latest in healthcare innovation and research to be one of the premier providers for fertility treatment, preservation and pre-implantation genetics in the UK.
Cancer Genomics – Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
Rotations will be predominantly within the West Midlands area and specifically Birmingham. Some training may be delivered by colleagues from the Central and South Genomic Laboratory Hub generally via distanced based learning but there may be an opportunity to attend our consortium partner laboratories, Oxford and Wessex, as required.
Clinical Biochemistry – Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
This post is based at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The Children’s Hospital (BC) provides secondary and tertiary services for a range of specialities including hepatology, neurology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and inherited metabolic disorders. It also provides general paediatric care, has an emergency department and one of the largest paediatric intensive care units in the country. The Women’s Hospital (BW) provides maternity, gynaecology, fertility and neonatal services. The Blood Sciences Clinical Chemistry Dept is based at BC with other laboratory medicine disciplines. The Chemistry laboratory at BW provides Fetal Anomaly Screening to a large number of Trusts across the UK. There are close links to Newborn Screening and Biochemical Genetics Laboratory at BC.
Clinical Chemistry is well equipped and provides UKAS accredited services. The post is primarily based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital but there will be a requirement to work at other hospitals within the Birmingham and Solihull Network, for example Birmingham Women’s Hospital and University Hospitals Birmingham (Heartlands Hospital), in order to gain the required breadth of experience.

Genomic Counselling – Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
Trainees will be based at Birmingham Women’s Hospital but will attend clinics around the West Midlands area on a regular basis to gain a breadth of experience. Therefore travel will be required (with expenses paid). We operate a flexible hybrid model of working that facilitates some working from home and flexible working.
