Audiology – Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
We are seeking a motivated individual to join Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) on a fixed term contract of 3 years. As part of the programme you will complete rotations in physiological sciences during the first year and the remainder of the programme will be working within Audiology. This training is combined with an academic programme at master’s (MSc) level over the three year programme.
Main duties of the job
Completing the Scientist Training Programme (STP) will include rotations across different specialities within NUH and working across all areas of audiology. This will be alongside the academic programme.

Nottingham Audiology has a long history of successfully training Clinical Scientists. Ongoing support from the Training Lead and their team is available throughout the three years and for the research elements of the MSc. We are a large team of Audiologists and have specialised clinics for; complex audiological cases, bone conduction hearing implants, tinnitus, dementia, paediatrics, evoked potentials, vestibular diagnostics and vestibular rehabilitation. We also share a site with the Nottingham Audiology Implant Programme. We have a strong record of investing in both the professional and clinical development of all our staff.
Clinic work will be primary based at Ropewalk House and Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham which are both in close proximity to Nottingham city centre.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will complete the full STP syllabus, including studying the MSc in Audiology at Manchester University and completion of all required rotations. Whilst much of the time is spent under direct supervision, towards the end of the training programme it is expected that some clinics are carried out under indirect supervision.
Cancer Genomics – Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
This post will be primarily based within the Genomic and Molecular Medicine Service at the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Located on the City Campus, Hucknall Road, Nottingham, NG5 1PB.
The Genomic and Molecular Medicine Service is a newly formed service created in May 2021, which saw the merger of four departments to create one single Genomics service. The service provides Rare Disease and Cancer genomic testing as a Local Genomics Laboratory within the East Genomics Laboratory Hub.
Although the merger occurred recently the constituent departments of the Genomic and Molecular Medicine Service have extensive training experience and been working collaboratively to offer STP training since the introduction of the program.

Clinical Biochemistry – Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
The main base of the post will be at the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (comprising of two hospital sites: Nottingham City Hospital and the Queen’s Medical Centre). Please note that the two hospital sites are in close proximity to each other and there is a free Medilink bus service which can be utilised to move between the sites. In order to gain further experience, trainees will additionally have the opportunity to work at Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. With the exception of the Toxicology rotation, all specialist rotations are provided by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and any associated accommodation and transport costs to attend the Toxicology rotation are met by the department.
Clinical Engineering – Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
Clinical Engineering at Nottingham is one of the largest clinical engineering services in the country, within NUH which is the 4th largest acute hospital trusts in the UK. Clinical Engineering partners with supporting healthcare science departments both within and external to NUH NHS Trust to provide a rounded and thorough clinical engineering training experience. The majority of training will take place within NUH Clinical Engineering service, but significant time will also be spent with the Evoked Potentials Clinical at NUH, Medical Equipment Maintenance Department at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield and the Derby Gait and Movement Laboratory Team at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, Derby. The trainee should expect to attend all of these sites over the course of the three years of training.

Nuclear Medicine – Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
NUH has two main campuses across the City of Nottingham, QMC and City Hospital, training will be based at both sites, there is a frequent bus service between the two, of 25 minute journey time, free to staff.
Radiation Safety and Diagnostic Radiology – Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest acute NHS Trusts in the UK, a tertiary centre for a number of medical specialties and a major Trauma centre for the East Midlands, all of which require significant support from teams in our Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering department. We have access to an extensive range modern equipment both on site, including 6 MRI, 7 CT, 4 Gamma cameras, over 100 diagnostic ultrasound scanners, a brand new PET scanner and 7 Linacs, plus more in other centres mainly around the East Midlands to whom we provide medical physics services which offers an excellent opportunity to support your training. We work closely with clinical colleagues especially in Radiology, Cardiology and Oncology departments who undertake a broad range of advanced clinical activities. You will join with our dedicated and experienced team of expert Clinical Scientist and technologists who will guide you through your training, as we have 12 trainees over the last 5 years covering all Medical Physics specialisms, and all of whom passed without re-sit. Our teams are at the forefront of a large number of development and research activities and have excellent links with the University of Nottingham, whose main campus is located just over the road from our Queens Medical Centre (QMC) campus. All training is based within our two main sites across the City of Nottingham, the QMC and City Hospital campuses which are linked by a frequent shuttle bus service free to staff, Phase 1 of the training will be based at both sites.
