The Andrology STP at Cambridge IVF is a great opportunity – since 2019 we have been hosting 4 Andrology STP students. As an STP trainee you will be part of an enthusiastic and ever-growing team of scientists.

Cambridge IVF is part of Cambridge University Hospitals. However, we are located off site to the main hospital campus in Trumpington. You will be based in Cambridge, but will have the opportunity to visit our satellite Andrology laboratories in Ipswich and Peterborough. Flexible work shifts are offered and some Saturday shifts are needed on a rotational basis.

Our Andrology services are currently performing 500 semen analysis per month and offering fertility preservation to a variety of patients. You will be trained to performed all relevant Andrology tasks, including but not limited to: semen analysis, sperm freeze, surgical sperm retrieval, DNA fragmentation and retrograde ejaculation tests.

Cardiac Science – West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust

West Suffolk Hospital offers both Cardiac Rhythm Management and echocardiography services across the main site in Bury St Edmunds and at our Newmarket Community Diagnostic Centre. Our non-invasive diagnostics include 12 lead ECG, Holter monitor fitting and analysis, various forms of stress testing including exercise tolerance testing and stress echocardiography. We provide specialist echo services, some of which are Cardiac Scientist led.

The Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory delivers diagnostic angiograms, pacemaker, internal loop recorder and cardiac resynchronisation device implants. We have daily face to face pacemaker follow up clinics as well as a growing remote follow up service.

This post requires cross site working to achieve all learning outcomes. We have good support from other hospitals in the region to help provide some of the training opportunities such as sleep and vascular sciences, as well as advanced invasive diagnostic areas including EP and PCI.

Our movement analysis facility is based in Great Shelford. Travel between the two sites can be achieved on bike or by car. There is little public transport between the two sites.

Cardiac biomechanics is undertaken at Papworth hospital which is on the biomedical campus next to CUH.

Nuclear Medicine – East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) operates a forward-looking and friendly Nuclear Medicine department performing the full range of imaging and non-imaging studies. We have plans to expand our current range of Molecular Radiotherapy treatments (Iodine, Radium and Lutetium Dotatate). We also provide Physics services to the on-site PET-CT centre.

We are based at Ipswich Hospital and Colchester Hospital and training will be divided between the sites. A good rail link exists between the two centres. You will join a small and friendly team of Nuclear Medicine physicists. We have very good relations with teams in our Radiotherapy Physics and Radiation Safety and Imaging Physics groups with whom you may complete your rotations. Other rotations may be provided through the East of England Training Consortium.

East Anglia is a beautiful part of the country with lovely coastline and cities with good access to London.

This post is hosted by the East Anglian Regional Radiation Protection Service (EARRPS) based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. You will be based primarily within the service for the duration of your training although some of the rotations in the first year will be delivered in other departments in Cambridge and at other hospitals in East Anglia.

EARRPS is a high-quality scientific and technical advisory service in the field of radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics. The service promotes systems of work that ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff when using ionising and non-ionising sources of radiation such as x-rays, radioactive materials, lasers and UV cabinets. You will learn the knowledge and skills needed to deliver a wide range of services including imaging equipment performance testing and optimisation, radiation facility design and environmental monitoring, patient radiation dose assessment, regulatory audits and advice, instrument calibration, radioactive waste management and, teaching and training.

EARRPS delivers services across the region so there are opportunities within this position to gain experience of a wide range of technologies used in a variety of different healthcare settings. You will be supported by a large, friendly and supportive team of healthcare scientists and practitioners as well as joining a community of other trainees across medical physics. Radiotherapy Physics – Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The radiotherapy physics service at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge provides support to the hospital’s radiotherapy service. The service treats approximately 4000 courses of radiotherapy per year using 8 linear accelerators, HDR brachytherapy, LDR brachytherapy, and orthovoltage. We routinely treat using VMAT, SABR, SRS, IGRT and SGRT.

The successful trainee will join a team of over 40 scientific and technical staff, including one radiotherapy trainees who will be in year three of STP. Trainees will undertake rotational placements in the East Anglia region, some of which may be at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, or other hospitals in our training consortium (Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust, Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust), with the radiotherapy rotation being hosted at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
