We are looking for someone with a passion for cardiac science who can play an active part in our amazing team. Working alongside eight Cardiologists, the department provides a wide range of complex cardiac and respiratory investigations. In the cath lab this includes routine use of IVUS, OCT, FFR, rotablation and IVL. Within devices it includes His bundle pacing, high voltage device implantation and non-medical ILR implantation. We are in the process of planning and implementing planning scientist led services such as CRT optimisation and pre assessment clinics. In echo this includes stress echo, scientist led valve clinics and ACHD clinics.

We have a proven track record of supporting STP trainees and have a dedicated training lead responsible for your development. Training is provided across our three main sites – BRI, St Luke’s Hospital, and Eccleshill Community Diagnostic Centre. Any EP training would be facilitated at our local tertiary centre in Leeds.

Within Cardiac Physiology at St Georges, there is a team of approximately 70 cardiac physiologists that will help you through your development and understanding of cardiac physiology and disease processes. The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust offers an extensive range of non-invasive and invasive cardiac procedures.

The majority of your training will take place at the hospital’s main site. However, some of your training will require offsite travel. As a trainee you will have access to regular team meetings, in-house and external training events, multi-disciplinary team meetings and clinical specialists. We have an on-site library, restaurant, chapel, prayer rooms and a small number of onsite stores, to include M&S, Boots and Costa. There is no onsite accommodation.

The post will be mainly based at the Bristol Heart Institute (BHI) in the centre of Bristol City. Here we have over 6 successful years of experience in training STP students. The BHI is a large purpose-built cardiac centre for adult cardiology, with 5 cath labs, and a hybrid surgical/cath lab. Our large team adopts cutting edge technology and techniques to provide the best and most up-to-date care for our patients. Occasionally some clinical exposure may take place at Weston Hospital. The Trust provides a shuttle bus between the two sites.

Our Bristol and Weston training consortium will enable candidates to experience other specialisms (including paediatric cardiology), as well as benefit from the support of experienced mentors and other cardiac STP students within the consortium.

The Royal Sussex County Hospital is based in central Brighton in Kemptown, a short walk from the sea. The post is based in the Cardiac Diagnostics department. The trainee will be expected to travel between the site in Brighton and the Cardiac Department at Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath). Travel to Haywards Heath is approximately 1-2 days per week and there is a free bus for travel between the sites. Some rotations may require the trainee to travel further afield. On-site accommodation is limited and short-term only.

This training post is for the Echocardiography specialism in Cardiac Science. The department has state of the art facilities with access to study space on site. The Trust has undergone extensive modernisation and redevelopment. This has transformed the Royal Sussex County site delivering a state-of-the-art environment and services. The new Cardiac Diagnostics department is based in the Louisa Martindale Building at the centre of this project.

Cardiac Science – West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust

West Suffolk Hospital offers both Cardiac Rhythm Management and echocardiography services across the main site in Bury St Edmunds and at our Newmarket Community Diagnostic Centre. Our non-invasive diagnostics include 12 lead ECG, Holter monitor fitting and analysis, various forms of stress testing including exercise tolerance testing and stress echocardiography. We provide specialist echo services, some of which are Cardiac Scientist led.

The Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory delivers diagnostic angiograms, pacemaker, internal loop recorder and cardiac resynchronisation device implants. We have daily face to face pacemaker follow up clinics as well as a growing remote follow up service.

This post requires cross site working to achieve all learning outcomes. We have good support from other hospitals in the region to help provide some of the training opportunities such as sleep and vascular sciences, as well as advanced invasive diagnostic areas including EP and PCI.
