Cardiac Science – Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for someone with a passion for cardiac science who can play an active part in our amazing team. Working alongside eight Cardiologists, the department provides a wide range of complex cardiac and respiratory investigations. In the cath lab this includes routine use of IVUS, OCT, FFR, rotablation and IVL. Within devices it includes His bundle pacing, high voltage device implantation and non-medical ILR implantation. We are in the process of planning and implementing planning scientist led services such as CRT optimisation and pre assessment clinics. In echo this includes stress echo, scientist led valve clinics and ACHD clinics.
We have a proven track record of supporting STP trainees and have a dedicated training lead responsible for your development. Training is provided across our three main sites – BRI, St Luke’s Hospital, and Eccleshill Community Diagnostic Centre. Any EP training would be facilitated at our local tertiary centre in Leeds.

The trainee will be based at Cambridge University Hospitals for the duration of their training but may have to undertake a short placement at a tertiary centre. As we are offering two positions one trainee will have to undertake echocardiography in their final year and the other will have to undertake cardiac rhythm management.

The cardiology departments at East Kent Hospitals has years of experience training at STP and HSST levels. There will be an expectation to travel between out three main sites (Ashford, Canterbury and Margate) our vascular rotation is at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. We are a busy cardiac department and regional Primary PCI centre, we offer EP and complex echo locally (such as stress echo and physiologist led Valve clinic)

Cardiac Science – Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust
Trainee will be based primarily at Fairfield General Hospital (Bury) but will have to cross-site work at Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary and occasionally visit Glodwick Health Centre. Some components of your training will need to be provided at different centres such as for your Respiratory rotation and if choosing Cardiac Rhythm Management your EP training will be provided at another centre. You will be allowed free choice to choose which specialism you want to train in.
We provide the following echo services: TTE, TOE, valve clinics and exercise/dobutamine stress tests. In Cardiac Rhythm Management we perform brady, CRT, CSP and ICD implants as well as the follow up of these devices plus S-ICD and Micra’s. We also have a Cath lab that provides coronary angiograms, RHC and PCI.

There is an opportunity to undertake your STP (Cardiac Science) at Portsmouth Hospital University NHS Trust. We are a large district hospital that serves a population of over a million and we perform a wide range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac tests. You will be expected to work 8:30 -17:00 5 days a week within the Cardiac Investigation Unit, with one day allocated off as study a week. You will be expected to work within a large multidisciplinary team and contribute to patient care whilst being supervised. You will also be allocated a mentor who will support you throughout the programme clinically and academically to make sure yearly goals are achieved.

The trainee will be based at the Barnet Hospital for their, CRM and echo training. However, they might have to travel to Royal Free Hospital for Cath Lab training. If the trainee prefers to specialise in CRM, Barnet might be the best option. If the trainee prefers to specialise in echocardiography for their final year, Royal Free Hospital might be the best option.
Barnet Hospital – The nearest tube station is High Barnet station, and the nearest train station is New Barnet station to get to Barnet Hospital. It takes a 10–20-minute walk from the station or 10-minute bus ride from the station, using bus routes 107 or 307.
Royal Free Hospital – The nearest tube station is Belsize Park, and the nearest train station is Hampstead Heath to get to Royal Free Hospital. It takes 5-10 minutes to walk from the station.

This exciting post will be located at the nationally recognised tertiary centre of The James Cook University Hospital. We are looking to recruit a passionate and forward-thinking future clinical scientist wanting to specialise cardiac rhythm management. The South Tees NHS Foundation Trust consists of the James Cook University Hospital as well as the Friarage Hospital and our outstanding Community Diagnostic Centres. Although the prospective STP trainee will be based at the James Cook University Hospital for the vast majority of the training it is foreseen that travel to different sites will be required. Cardiac Science – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Based at St Georges Hospital, Tooting, London. Within Cardiac Physiology at St Georges, there is a team of approximately 70 cardiac physiologists that will help you through your development and understanding of cardiac physiology and disease processes. We cover all diagnostic and intervention cardiac procedures, no matter how simple or complex, we perform the following:
- ECG and Holter monitoring and analysis
- Exercise tolerance testing, including CPET
- 5 Cardiac catherisation labs, including PPCI
- Cardiac Device implants and follow up
- Echo, including TTE, TOE, Stress and Valve clinic, ICC and Paediatrics
Education is important here at St George’s, so we have a range of staff from newly qualified PTP students, to highly specialised physiologists and you as STP students are part of this. As St Georges Hospital is attached to a University, you have 24 hour library access.

Cardiac Science – The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust offers an extensive range of non-invasive and invasive cardiac procedures.
The majority of your training will take place at the hospital’s main site. However, some of your training will require offsite travel. As a trainee you will have access to regular team meetings, in-house and external training events, multi-disciplinary team meetings and clinical specialists. We have an on-site library, restaurant, chapel, prayer rooms and a small number of onsite stores, to include M&S, Boots and Costa. There is no onsite accommodation.
Departmental service leads and the training Co-ordinator will facilitate the decision making process regarding choosing the specialist option (Cardiac Rhythm Management & EP or Echocardiography).
You will train within a friendly and supportive team. Our department has a strong student base and has successfully supported many trainees to successful completion of the Scientist Training Programme.

Cardiac Science – University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
The trainee will be based at Solihull Hospital in the Cardiology department with rotation to other UHB sites including Heartlands hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. There is a shuttle bus and good transport links between the sites.
At Solihull we do not have a complex device service but Good Hope Hospital would support this aspect of the training if chosen for specialisation. Full Echocardiography training would be available at Solihull. You will have access to the education centre with all learning resources, a trust laptop to complete your studies and full support from the team.

Cardiac Science – University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust
The post will be mainly based at the Bristol Heart Institute (BHI) in the centre of Bristol City. Here we have over 6 successful years of experience in training STP students. The BHI is a large purpose-built cardiac centre for adult cardiology, with 5 cath labs, and a hybrid surgical/cath lab. Our large team adopts cutting edge technology and techniques to provide the best and most up-to-date care for our patients. Occasionally some clinical exposure may take place at Weston Hospital. The Trust provides a shuttle bus between the two sites.
Our Bristol and Weston training consortium will enable candidates to experience other specialisms (including paediatric cardiology), as well as benefit from the support of experienced mentors and other cardiac STP students within the consortium.
We provide training for all the required aspects of STP Cardiac Science modules (CRM and Echo) within the BHI. This year we hope to accept two candidates for CRM specialty.

Cardiac Science – University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
The Royal Sussex County Hospital is based in central Brighton in Kemptown, a short walk from the sea. The post is based in the Cardiac Diagnostics department. The trainee will be expected to travel between the site in Brighton and the Cardiac Department at Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath). Travel to Haywards Heath is approximately 1-2 days per week and there is a free bus for travel between the sites. Some rotations may require the trainee to travel further afield. On-site accommodation is limited and short-term only.
This training post is for the Echocardiography specialism in Cardiac Science. The department has state of the art facilities with access to study space on site. The Trust has undergone extensive modernisation and redevelopment. This has transformed the Royal Sussex County site delivering a state-of-the-art environment and services. The new Cardiac Diagnostics department is based in the Louisa Martindale Building at the centre of this project.

Cardiac Science – West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust
West Suffolk Hospital offers both Cardiac Rhythm Management and echocardiography services across the main site in Bury St Edmunds and at our Newmarket Community Diagnostic Centre. Our non-invasive diagnostics include 12 lead ECG, Holter monitor fitting and analysis, various forms of stress testing including exercise tolerance testing and stress echocardiography. We provide specialist echo services, some of which are Cardiac Scientist led.
The Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory delivers diagnostic angiograms, pacemaker, internal loop recorder and cardiac resynchronisation device implants. We have daily face to face pacemaker follow up clinics as well as a growing remote follow up service.
This post requires cross site working to achieve all learning outcomes. We have good support from other hospitals in the region to help provide some of the training opportunities such as sleep and vascular sciences, as well as advanced invasive diagnostic areas including EP and PCI.

Cardiac Science – York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
The trainee will work at the main hospital and CDC sites just outside York. There is also a CDC at Selby, work at this site would only commence after a certain level of training. There is good parking at both the CDC sites. For parking at York Hospital, there is nearby street parking or PCN car parks. The city has good bus and train links. The successful trainee will have the opportunity to specialise in either CRM or Echo depending on their preference/ability. We are an ever expanding department with new opportunities in the community on the horizon and with a new cardiac catheterisation laboratory currently being built.
