The East Kent Hospitals (EKHUFT) Immunology laboratory at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, serves a population of 1.9 million. It is part of the K&M Pathology Network (KMPN). A new clinical immunology and allergy service has been set-up and patients are now being cared for locally.

The STP trainee will join a team of 8 biomedical scientists, a senior clinical scientist, and associated support staff, led by a medical Consultant in Immunology and Allergy and a part-time Consultant Clinical Scientist. They will have opportunities to rotate to other EKHUFT and KMPN laboratories. Agreements are in place with other UK centres to ensure a diversity of experience of clinical and laboratory environments.
East Kent has a beautiful coastline, countryside and villages. Cultural highlights include the cathedral city of Canterbury, the diverse arts scene in Margate and Folkestone, and excellent transport links to London.

You will be based at the Norfolk and Norwich within the Immunology Department. You will also get the opportunity to spend time at other sites for the specialist Immunology work not currently undertaken at NNUH as well as clinics and multi-disciplinary meetings.

Clinical Immunology – Synnovis

The trainee will be based at the Synnovis Hub at Blackfriars in London, but may need to travel to King’s College Hospital site to attend Immunology clinics. This is a short bus or train journey across South East London.

The trainee will attend the weekly Immunology / Allergy MDT. The appointment will also include a one week rotation at the Immunology Laboratory at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Clinical Immunology – University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

The Immunology laboratory is based at the Leicester Royal infirmary and offers a comprehensive range of immunology assays for the diagnosis and management of autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, allergy, myeloma and also provides flow cytometric testing for haematological malignancies. The clinical immunology team are co-located and work closely with the laboratory team facilitating clinical experience for our STPs.

All of the training for the entire curriculum can be undertaken onsite. There are close working relationships with other onsite Blood Sciences Departments to facilitate first year core rotations. The laboratory participates in all relevant external quality assurance schemes (e.g. NEQAS) and is and is fully accredited by UKAS.
