The trainee will be placed at Laboratory Haematology in John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. John Radcliffe Hospital is part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Comprised of John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital and Horton General Hospital) which is itself a part of the S4 Network.

The trainee will be expected to occasionally travel between 2 of the OUH sites. There are shuttle facilities and on-site parking.
John Radcliffe Hospital has a wide range of analysers (e.g. Sysmex XR and Immucor NEO Iris), multiple PCs, laptops, office space, seminar rooms with projectors and training equipment (e.g. multi-head microscope), a laboratory library, digital libraries (provided by our partnership with Sysmex and Brookes University), Cairn’s library (a sizable library shared with the University of Oxford), NEQAS participation (e.g. Digital Morphology) opportunities to attend Grand rounds and more.

Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre has a wide range of analysers (e.g. Sysmex CN and Sysmex XF-1600), multiple PCS, laptops, office space, consultation rooms (e.g. when shadowing Clinicians), a laboratory library and more.

Haematology and Transfusion Science – University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust

An STP in Haematology and Transfusion Science based at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) will be able to complete all elements of their training for both rotational and specialist modules on site. UHP is the largest Trust, a regional specialist teaching Trust and is also the major trauma centre within the South West Peninsula. Additional specialist services provided by UHP include Stem Cell Transplantation and CAR-T cell therapy. Clinical Haematology has expertise in all areas of malignant haematology, morphology, haemoglobinopathies, haemostasis and thrombosis, and transfusion.
