We are offering an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated biological science graduate to join our busy laboratory as an STP trainee in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I). The Transplantation Laboratory at Manchester Royal Infirmary supports regional kidney, pancreas, islet, heart, lung, cornea and haemopoietic stem cell transplant programmes and HLA typing for disease diagnosis and management. Training rotations will involve working in other blood sciences departments on-site within the Trust.

We are one of the largest H&I laboratories in the UK with an excellent training record and we take pride in encouraging career focused scientists to fulfil their potential.

Post qualification and registration with the HCPC, our centre offers excellent opportunities for higher training for individuals with a drive to study for HSST and FRCPath qualifications.

  • North West

The STP in Histopathology Trainee will be based at either the Wythenshawe or Oxford Road Campus (ORC) of Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) adult Histopathology departments of the Cellular Pathology Directorate of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). As both sites receive a different distribution of specimens (specialities such as breast, lung and gynae) depending on the adjacent hospital services and clinics provided, trainees should be prepared to rotate between sites and are expected to work at either location at some stage of the programme.
Both adult histopathology sites have staff medical libraries and resources that can be utilised in self-directed learning to complete the tasks associated with the STP.

Rotations in some of the aspects of the histopathology training (such as Cancer Genomics) will be completed on the ORC and by departments and organisations that are partners and stakeholders in the development and successful completion of training of staff outcomes.
