The Audiology department is well equipped with adult, paediatric and balance clinics and can provide all audiology clinical training in-house. This post is mainly based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading but some training is carried out at satellite sites all commutable from Reading e.g. specialist balance training one day per week for a few months in second and third years. First year rotations are also carried out at Reading except one in Oxford.

Clinical Biochemistry – Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

The trainee will be principally based in the Clinical Biochemistry department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital but will spend time at each of the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services Clinical Biochemistry sites. In the first year, there will be rotations to our Molecular Diagnostics department based at the Royal Surrey Hospital and our Immunology department based at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey. In subsequent years, there will be rotation through our Specialist Clinical Biochemistry services based at the Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford and a paediatric placement to the Inherited Metabolic Disease Laboratory at Synnovis, London.

Imaging with Non-Ionising Radiation – Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

Your base will be the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading which is part of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT) and where you will encounter an extensive range of all the modalities (MR, ultrasound, lasers, blue-light, and phototherapy). Some travel will be required to the other RBFT hospitals in Berkshire and the hospitals of Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust in Buckinghamshire (mainly High Wycombe and Aylesbury). Transport is provided and you will travel with other members of the team.

Radiotherapy Physics – Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

Radiotherapy equipment currently includes four Elekta linear accelerators (Versa HD & Synergy), equipped with 4D-CBCT and AlignRT SGRT, two wide-bore CT scanners with SimRT supporting 4D and breath-hold capture, an orthovoltage unit and a microSelectron HDR unit. Radiotherapy planning is provided by Eclipse and ProSoma, with patient management provided by MOSAIQ. We also provide an LDR and HDR Brachytherapy service with Oncentra and VariSeed systems. External beam therapy is provided over two sites – one in the Berkshire Cancer Centre within the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, and also in the Bracknell Health Space. Transport will be provided on the occasionally required visit to Bracknell.

Reading sits on the river Thames and is served by great road and rail links. With excellent leisure and shopping facilities and a thriving cultural scene, Reading and it surrounding area is a wonderful place to live, work and play and provides excellent facilities for families, including some of the best schools in the UK.
