Audiology – Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

  • 1 post
  • North East and Yorkshire

This post will be primarily based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. Paediatric training will be delivered at Sheffield Children’s Hospital which is a 5 minute walking distance from the base site. Trainees may be required to travel to other sites on a block basis e.g. for day placements at other clinical locations in Sheffield, Chesterfield and other localities – these are typically manageable by public transport and would be agreed with a trainee prior.

Sheffield has good public transport links to the main hospital site by rail, bus and tram. Sheffield is known as the ‘outdoor city’ with many green spaces and is located close to the Peak District National Park. The Trust has an excellent staff benefits programme and trainees will have access to onsite health sciences library with study facilities. We have over 1500 HCS staff in the trust and a large number of other STP trainees based here for peer support.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STH) is a large Trust spread across multiple hospital sites. The key hospital sites that STP trainees will work at are:

  • Royal Hallamshire Hospital (RHH)
  • Northern General Hospital (NGH)
  • Weston Park Hospital (WPH)

Most specialisms are based at the RHH, although Radiotherapy is at WPH which is very close to RHH. There is a free shuttle bus to get to NGH, which will be required when training in Nuclear Medicine.

The Medical Physics department in Sheffield is very friendly and welcoming for STP trainees. There is also an excellent peer support network, where more senior trainees mentor the new entries and advise on many things including accommodation etc.

Wherever possible, we aim to give trainees the choice of specialism once they have completed the rotation phase of the training. Although it can’t be guaranteed that trainees will always get their first choice, it has so far been accommodated in all cases.
