Cardiac Science – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Based at St Georges Hospital, Tooting, London. Within Cardiac Physiology at St Georges, there is a team of approximately 70 cardiac physiologists that will help you through your development and understanding of cardiac physiology and disease processes. We cover all diagnostic and intervention cardiac procedures, no matter how simple or complex, we perform the following:
- ECG and Holter monitoring and analysis
- Exercise tolerance testing, including CPET
- 5 Cardiac catherisation labs, including PPCI
- Cardiac Device implants and follow up
- Echo, including TTE, TOE, Stress and Valve clinic, ICC and Paediatrics
Education is important here at St George’s, so we have a range of staff from newly qualified PTP students, to highly specialised physiologists and you as STP students are part of this. As St Georges Hospital is attached to a University, you have 24 hour library access.

Clinical Engineering – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Training for Clinical Engineering is offered by the trust at two main sites, St. George’s Hospital in Tooting and Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton. The rotations will be done at both sites. Depending on the emphasis of your phase 2 and phase 3 work you may spend more time in years 2 and 3 at one of the sites compared to the other. We can offer training in all areas of the curriculum, including Device Risk and Management, Clinical Measurement and Rehabilitation Services, and even though the specialism is now one we have always had the ability to cater for all modules on the course. Where appropriate and desirable you may be able to organise some placement work at other London Hospitals.

Critical Care Science – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Training for Critical Care Science is offered by the trust at our main site of St. George’s Hospital in Tooting. The rotations will also be done at this site. We can offer training in all areas of the curriculum and currently have our first CC trainee in the rotations stage. The Critical Care team is part of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering department and you will be in a trainee network with up to 18 other MPCE STPs here at St. George’s.

Genomic Counselling – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The post will primarily be based at St George’s Hospital in Tooting in South West London. The trainee will also need to travel to clinics we hold across South London, Surrey and West Sussex as required. The trainee will work across cancer genetics, rare disease, prenatal genetics, cardiac and neuro genetics with a supportive team. We also have teaching links with City St George’s University of London providing opportunities to develop teaching and presenting skills.

Medical Physics – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Training for Medical Physics (undefined) is offered by the South West London Consortium at two main sites, St. George’s Hospital in Tooting and Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton. The rotations will be done at both sites. Once a specialism is selected you may be working at one or both sites depending on the subject you choose. Radiotherapy is only available at the Royal Marsden and Radiation Safety/Diagnostic Radiology is only done at St. George’s. You may be at both sites for the other two choices. We aim to meet all trainees wishes for a specialism choice but it cannot be guaranteed. It is sometimes possible to work with the other two London Consortia to help ensure trainees get a chance to do their first choice specialism.

Reconstructive Science – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The post will be based at St George’s University Hospitals, Tooting. There will be opportunities to visit on site clinics with Moorfields Eye Hospital department to treat patients with ocular conditions and observing at The Royal Marsden Hospitals for patients requiring oncology treatment. The department has a long standing relationship with the team in the Atkinson Morley Neuroscience wing providing Cranioplasty plates.
The STP trainee will have opportunities to be involved in the diverse clinics available at St George’s and any associated surgical cases, learn and develop technical skills for planning and manufacturing a wide range of Maxillofacial devices.
The laboratory supports specialist clinical services in the Maxillofacial and Dental unit covering paediatric dentistry, orthodontics, Maxillofacial and oral surgery and restorative dentistry.
Services covered in the Maxillofacial unit and laboratory includes:
- Range of Maxillofacial prosthetics – adhesive & implant retained auricular, nasal and orbital prosthesis
- Cranioplasty planning and manufacturing
- Craniofacial deformity, including orthognathic planning
- Trauma case planning and appliances
- 3D Planning for craniofacial deformity and trauma
- Advanced dental appliances for obturation
- TMJ planning and appliances

Vascular Science – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are a warm and friendly team. We are lucky to already have 2 STP students (3rd year and 1st year). The main base of role will be at STG. No other external sites will be required. The department consists of 3 scanning rooms in a clinical team of 6 clinical scientists. We provides vascular ultrasound for a large spectrum of diseases, specialising in EVAR and AAA imaging. The hospital is located very close to Tooting Broadway underground station and also has many accessible bus routes.
