An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Direct Entry STP position with our large and friendly team of audiologists, clinical scientists and hearing therapists across Bristol audiology services. We have 3 chief sites and several outreach clinics across the city, the host site being Southmead Hospital (IQIPS nationally accredited). Paediatric training is provided by the Children’s Hearing Centre.

We have excellence across all areas of adult and paediatric audiology including vestibular (balance) assessment/ rehabilitation. We work very closely with ENT vertigo clinics, and have close links with implant services, neurology, and physiotherapy. We are research and audit active.

Bristol audiology has been providing STP supervision and training for more than 10 years, and we have a 100% success rate.

The post will be mainly based at the Bristol Heart Institute (BHI) in the centre of Bristol City. Here we have over 6 successful years of experience in training STP students. The BHI is a large purpose-built cardiac centre for adult cardiology, with 5 cath labs, and a hybrid surgical/cath lab. Our large team adopts cutting edge technology and techniques to provide the best and most up-to-date care for our patients. Occasionally some clinical exposure may take place at Weston Hospital. The Trust provides a shuttle bus between the two sites.

Our Bristol and Weston training consortium will enable candidates to experience other specialisms (including paediatric cardiology), as well as benefit from the support of experienced mentors and other cardiac STP students within the consortium.

We provide training for all the required aspects of STP Cardiac Science modules (CRM and Echo) within the BHI. This year we hope to accept two candidates for CRM specialty.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust Nuclear Medicine Physics department supports 6 gamma cameras, two PET/CT scanners and other associated equipment. We have nuclear medicine imaging, molecular radiotherapy, and a radiopharmacy on site. We are part of a medical physics department which includes diagnostic radiology physics, radiation protection, radiotherapy and non-ionising radiation (MR and Ultrasound), and the vast majority of training will be done on the central Bristol site.

You will be based at Bristol Royal Infirmary, and will have a desk in a shared office. You will also be expected to attend North Bristol Trust, which also has a private PET scanner on site which we support. There are good transport links. For the non-ionising radiation rotation, there may be around 2 days travel required to another regional hospital. There will be opportunities to visit other sites during training but this should not be essential.
