This post will be primarily based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. Paediatric training can be delivered at Sheffield Children’s Hospital which is a 5 minute walk from base site. Trainees may be required to travel to other sites on a block basis e.g. for placements at other clinical locations in Sheffield, Chesterfield and other localities – these are typically manageable by public transport and would be agreed with a trainee prior.

Sheffield has good public transport links to the main hospital site by rail, bus and tram. Sheffield is known as the ‘outdoor city’ with many green spaces and is located close to the Peak District National Park. The Trust has an excellent staff benefits programme and trainees will have access to onsite health sciences library with study facilities. We have over 1500 Healthcare Science staff in the trust and a large number of other STP trainees based here for peer support.

The Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield genetics laboratories work in a collaborative as the North-East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub (NEY GLH). Our NEY GLH sites are accredited as an STP training Consortium, however trainees will be employed by and based at their home Trust. Elements of training will be delivered across our sites and whilst much of this training has been successfully transferred to remote delivery it will be necessary for trainees to spend time at our partner organisations during their period of training, to receive a complete programme of education and development. This is built into training plans which will be clearly developed and communicated with trainees and supported by the NEY GLH training group. We have consolidated our wet laboratory testing activity into two sites (Leeds and Newcastle). Scientific analysis and reporting activity will continue in Sheffield, which is our main centre for specialised rare disease service delivery.

We currently have 32 STP trainees in the region, an experienced workplace training team including a dedicated training co-ordinator and a practice educator, and a trainee network providing peer support. The NTC has a strong record of keeping STP trainees in the region once qualified.

This Urodynamic Science post will be mainly based in Newcastle upon Tyne, but the appointee will be expected to travel to Durham for their GI training and occasionally elsewhere within the NTC region for some training activities.
