Cardiac Science – Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Trainees will be primarily based at a single site. Alder Hey is the surgical and interventional centre for paediatric congenital heart disease for the Northwest. As Alder Hey is a paediatric hospital, and certain mandatory components of the Cardiac Science pathway reflect adult cardiology practice (for example, primary PCI), collaborative arrangements will be in place with neighbouring adult Trusts, such as Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH), which is a 10-minute walk away.
While all elements of Cardiac Science are delivered within paediatric cardiology services, this placement is particularly suited to the Imaging (Echocardiography) Cardiac Science specialty. The placement will provide comprehensive exposure, training, and educational opportunities to support progression towards accreditation in both adult echocardiography and paediatric/adult congenital heart disease echocardiography competencies.
In addition, the Alder Hey Cardiac Science service offers unique opportunities for experience within innovative interventional and cardiac theatre environments, further enhancing clinical training and professional development.
