The trainee will join the Neurogastroenterology unit at the Wythenshawe site. We are a specialist , multi-disciplinary and experienced team carrying out the diagnostic testing on patients with complex gastrointestinal conditions. You will develop close working relationships with other disciplines including gastrointestinal surgeons, functional bowel service, obstetrics and gynaecology, GI radiology, Urodynamics and Cardiology or Respiratory/Sleep, depending on your choice for rotation.

Gastrointestinal Physiology – Northern Training Consortium

The Northern Training Consortium (NTC) is a well-established training consortium of 8 Trusts in the North East and North Cumbria, working together to deliver high quality training in the Physical Sciences. We currently have 32 STP trainees in the region, an experienced workplace training team including a dedicated training co-ordinator and a practice educator, and a trainee network providing peer support. The NTC has a strong record of keeping STP trainees in the region once qualified.

This Gastrointestinal Physiology post will be mainly based in both Newcastle and Durham, but the appointee will on occasion be expected to travel elsewhere within the NTC region for some training activities.

Gastrointestinal Physiology – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Our department is a well-established sub-speciality within Gastroenterology. It is a consultant led service with the day-to-day clinical activity led by the lead clinical scientist. It performs over 2000 GI Physiology related procedures a year to the surrounding area and as a tertiary centre for oesophageal manometry and 24 pH studies receiving referrals from over the UK. The trainee will work across St. George’s Hospital -Tooting, Nelson Health Centre -Wimbledon and Queen Mary’s Hospital – Roehampton. Sites are within cycling distance of each but there are also trains, buses and the London Underground.

The trainee will be based mainly within the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) but may be required to travel to the North Bristol Hospital site to fulfil some elements of first year rotations for which there are good transport links.

The BRI department operates within and works closely with the endoscopy unit.
