This is a great opportunity to work and train in an IQIPS/UKAS accredited department in one of the country’s leading teaching hospitals. We are an enthusiastic and motivated team consisting of nine clinical vascular scientists, one senior coordinator and two healthcare support workers. The department is an accredited training centre for both STP and HSST trainees and currently have 2 STP and 2 HSST in training.

The trainee will be based in Vascular Studies Unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. There may be an option to do components of the Cardiac, Respiratory and/or Sleep rotations at Royal Papworth Hospital, which is also located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (https://cambridge-biomedical.com/). There are on-site leisure facilities, a nursery, several food outlets and shops and many gardens/rest areas available to staff. Addenbrooke’s can be accessed by cycling, bus, Park & Ride and soon by rail via the new Cambridge South Station.

The Ultrasonic Angiology department is based in a busy teaching hospital in central London with two main sites (Guy’s Hospital, London Bridge and St Thomas’ Hospital, Westminster).

The department supports four satellite clinics in South East London. The department consists of a clinical lead, senior clinical scientists, clinical scientists, STP/HSST trainees, a technician and administrative staff.

There are four scanning rooms per site with modern duplex vascular ultrasound systems and a scanning room at each of the satellite clinics with a duplex vascular ultrasound system or portable vascular ultrasound system.

You will mainly work at the two main sites but may support one or more of the satellite clinics. The main sites have good public transport links and there is a train/bus service between satellite clinics. The first year will involve rotations in the Cardiac and Respiratory and Sleep departments.

The department has links with Vascular Surgery and Renal Medicine and opportunities for research.

Local promotion details for post(s): Short sites visits from applicants are welcome.

You will be primarily based at the main Vascular Laboratory within the Trust (Manchester Royal Infirmary). Depending on service requirements and training needs, you may need to rotate between hospital sites where vascular diagnostic services are provided. These sites are linked by good public transport. You will be required to travel regularly and rotate through hospitals, to support completion of the curriculum and learning outcomes.

The Trust is part of a regional Vascular Science training consortium, providing access to a broad range of clinical experience across multiple sites. This collaborative approach ensures exposure to a comprehensive caseload and specialist services.

The Trust offers full training, including arterial and venous duplex ultrasound, ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) measurement, graft surveillance, carotid studies, and support for vascular outpatient/inpatient services. Specialist elements may be delivered at partner consortium sites.

You will have access to fully equipped vascular laboratories with modern ultrasound systems, reporting software, and PACS integration.

Local promotion details for post(s): Prospective trainees will be offered the opportunity to attend virtual information sessions. These events will provide insight into the training environment, facilities, and structure of the MSc Healthcare Scientist Training Programme, as well as opportunities to meet the training team and current staff.

The service is principally based at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, which is the acute hub of the North Central London Vascular Network, however we also work across other local sites such as Barnet Hospital, Hadley Wood Hospital, Finchley Memorial Hospital, The Whittington Hospital and North Middlesex University Hospital. The trainee will join of a team of qualified vascular scientists, current STP trainees and administrators.

In addition to the core mix of Doppler ultrasound activity, the service sees interesting cohorts of patients including those with problematic vascular access for haemodialysis, complex aortic aneurysms, vascular malformations, renovascular disease and complex venous disease. There is opportunity to work within our specialist microvascular service undertaking cold challenge thermography and nailfold capillaroscopy. We work closely with Consultant Vascular Surgeons from across the network, Clinical Nurse Specialists, neurovascular and diabetic foot MDTs, a large team of research fellows, junior doctors and our pathway navigation team.

We are a small, friendly team of 4-6 Scientists, 1 Physiologist and 2 Healthcare Assistants. We have a close working relationship with the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Training at UHB takes place across multiple sites and the trainee will be expected to travel to the site where learning can be maximised. The main sites that training will take will be Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and Queen Elizabeth with some shifts taking place at Good Hope hospital. There are good transport links and a shuttle bus that operates between sites.

We operate largely out of consultant led one stop clinics which means you will be exposed to and learning all vascular scan types throughout the programme and get the opportunity to develop good working relationships with the team.

Local promotion details for post(s): The department takes part in local think tanks and healthcare science open days.
