The main base for the training post at NHS East and South East London Pathology (Bart Health NHS Trust) will be at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, but during the 3 years you will visit our Barts, Newham, Whipps Cross, Homerton and Lewisham & Greenwich sites for clinical experience. The department is one of the largest in the UK, with specialist services including LC-MS/MS, HPLC, atomic absorption and proteins. We provide clinical and technical POCT support across the partnership trusts. We serve specialist clinical services across Barts Health, which has the largest cardiovascular centre in the UK, the second largest cancer centre in London, adult and paediatric endocrine, nutrition and ICU teams. The genetics rotation in year 1 and paediatrics in year 3 is hosted by Great Ormond Street Hospital. The trainee will join a team of 4 Consultants, 9 Clinical Scientists and 2 trainees.

Clinical Engineering – Barts Health NHS Trust

Operating across four hospital sites – The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross, and Newham University Hospital, and community locations such as Mile End Hospital, delivering a broad range of clinical services. The department has supported the Trust and external partners for more than eighty years, providing extensive Clinical Physics and Engineering expertise.
Trainees will experience a broad range of specialist environments, technologies, and patient focused services that collectively build their competence as future clinical scientists.
Training is primarily based at the Royal London Hospital, with rotations across other sites in London. All sites are well connected via the tube and bus networks. Trainees will primarily specialise in Device Risk Management and Governance and Physiological Measurement, including Respiratory and Sleep Physiology, Cardiac Science, and the Vascular Laboratory, with additional rotations offered in Mechanical Engineering, Medical Physics, and Clinical Scientific Computing. Placements in Rehabilitation Engineering are available through partnerships with other NHS Trusts.
Local promotion details for post(s): Clinical Physics is planning to participate in an Open Day on the St Bartholomew's site on the 13th of March 2026. Site visits are available on request.

You will be based in the Centre for Reproductive Medicine on the 1st and 2nd Floor of The Kenton & Lucas Wing at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital.
We provide all the required rotations for Embryology here, but you will undertake the Genetics and Genomics Counselling rotations at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London during the summer of your first year.
We currently have two STP trainees and three Clinical Embryologists who completed their STP training here with us, who will be able to support you.

Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics – Barts Health NHS Trust

Trainees will join the Clinical Transplantation Laboratory within the East and Southeast London (ESEL) Pathology Partnership, which is part of Barts health NHS Trust. Training will take place primarily in the purpose built Pathology & Pharmacy building at the Royal London Hospital site in East London, though, in the third year there will be opportunities for placements with other healthcare providers.

Neurophysiology – Barts Health NHS Trust

Barts Health NHS Trust is multi-hospital Trust in East London. The trainee will be based at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, which has good public transport links and is close to the tube station, but will be expected to work across other sites including St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Newham Hospital and Homerton Hospital. Travel between sites as part of your working day will be via taxi and will be fully funded by the Trust.
