Andrology – Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The trainee will be primarily based within the diagnostic Andrology laboratory at Cambridge IVF, with additional training provided at diagnostic Andrology satellite clinics.

The service supports both diagnostic and clinical Andrology pathways, including routine semen analysis and post-vasectomy testing, sperm preparation, semen cryopreservation and specialist male fertility investigations.

The trainee may be required to rotate between the main site in Cambridge and satellite sites at Ipswich Hospital and Peterborough City Hospital on an irregular basis. The trainee will gain exposure to specialist techniques including sperm DNA fragmentation testing, surgical sperm retrieval/processing and laboratory quality management systems throughout their training.

These sites are well connected by road and public transport, with parking (chargeable at the satellite locations) and staff facilities available on-site.

A structured and supportive training environment will be provided, ensuring the trainee gains experience across the full scope of Andrology practice.

Our STP trainees are based in the Audiology department at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and we have experience of offering STP training since the scheme began, and we also offered the preceding HTS and CAC training schemes. We offer a friendly and supportive training environment. If you are able to travel you may have some possible visits to our peripheral adult and paediatric clinics in Cambridge and/or nearby towns. The first year rotations are accommodated within Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Addenbrooke’s Hospital is a part of the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation trust and sits within the Cambridge biomedical campus on the southern edge of Cambridge. The campus also includes a health centre, various shops, Papworth Hospital, the Rosie maternity hospital and various research groups. A railway station is about to open on site.

Clinical Immunology – Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The trainee will be based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, within the Diagnostic Immunology Laboratory at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS FT. All training is delivered on site, including first-year rotations through Blood Sciences department at Addenbrooke’s. Attendance at block teaching in Manchester is required for the HEI component of the programme. Laboratory core hours are Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm.

The department delivers the full STP Clinical Immunology curriculum and supports a large tertiary referral service with a wide and diverse test repertoire, including autoimmunity, allergy and immunochemistry. The laboratory also hosts an on-site immunology flow cytometry service and a high-throughput TB testing service.

The laboratory team consists of over 30 staff including clinical scientists and biomedical scientists, supported by a strong clinical team of consultants and registrars, with experience supporting STP training. Trainees will benefit from regular exposure to Immunology clinics and MDTs within a supportive and well-established training environment.

Imaging with non-Ionising Radiation – Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, you will develop your knowledge and practical skills in MRI and ultrasound physics, as part of the MR physics team within Medical Physics and Radiology.

We are actively involved in development and clinical implementation of advanced MRI methods and collaborate with Cambridge University researchers. We also advise on MRI safety for both Addenbrooke’s and other hospitals around the region.

Your specialist ultrasound and optical radiation training will be delivered partly at Addenbrooke’s and partly through travel to other trusts. Your first year includes MSc teaching at King’s College London and three rotations in other areas of Medical Physics, likely including one rotation at another hospital in the East of England. Transport and basic accommodation are funded whilst away from Cambridge.

The Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) Nuclear Medicine Department is a large, well-equipped service with three gamma cameras and a digital PET-CT scanner. This year we are installing state-of-the-art imaging equipment in the form of 3D SPECT-CT and LAFOV PET-CT machines, giving trainees valuable experience with the latest technology.

You will join a multidisciplinary team delivering a wide range of services including radionuclide therapies, from simple radioiodine treatments to innovative trial radiopharmaceuticals. The physics team also provides services such as equipment testing, image protocol development, radiation protection advice and specialist support to several external hospitals.

CUH is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and has strong links with internationally renowned research groups, creating excellent opportunities to contribute to, and potentially lead, research projects that directly influence and improve clinical practice.

Radiotherapy Physics – Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The radiotherapy physics service at Addenbrooke’s Hospital supports a busy clinical radiotherapy department treating around 4,000 patients each year and delivering over 40,000 fractions using eight linacs, HDR and LDR brachytherapy, and orthovoltage. We routinely deliver advanced techniques including VMAT, SABR, SRS, IGRT and SGRT.

In 2026 we will replace two linacs with a Varian TrueBeam and an Accuray Radixact X7. Ongoing development includes expanding Python-based automation, adopting AI autocontouring tools, introducing new techniques and trials, and increasing use of SRS, SABR and SGRT. We encourage trainees to present work locally, regionally and nationally.

The successful trainee will join a team of over 40 scientific and technical staff, including other trainees. Training includes rotational placements across the East Anglia region—at Addenbrooke’s or partner hospitals (Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust, Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust)—with the radiotherapy rotation based at Addenbrooke’s.

Respiratory and Sleep Science – Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The service delivers specialist investigations across inpatient, outpatient, and home-based pathways. Vascular Science – Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

This is a great opportunity to work and train in an IQIPS/UKAS accredited department in one of the country’s leading teaching hospitals. We are an enthusiastic and motivated team consisting of nine clinical vascular scientists, one senior coordinator and two healthcare support workers.
