East Kent hospitals cardiac team have a wealth of experience successfully seeing trainees through the STP. We offer both CRM and echo options. We are a large hospital with multiple sites across a fairly large area and there is expectation to travel between hospitals (William Harvey in Ashford, Kent and Canterbury hospital and QEQM hospital in Margate, to gain to most out of the training that we can provide. Rotations (vascular and respiratory) are provided either in Canterbury or at our CDC sites at Thanet and Buckland in Dover. The trust does offer hopper bus transfer between our main hospitals.

Clinical Biochemistry – East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT) is one of the largest acute Trusts in England, serving a population of more than 750,000 people. The Pathology department has laboratories on the three acute hospital sites at Ashford, Canterbury and Margate. EKHUFT Pathology is part of the Kent and Medway Pathology Network, which is entering an exciting time with changing IT and laboratory technology.

As an STP trainee in EKHUFT Biochemistry you will be joining a team of 23 biomedical scientists, 7 qualified clinical scientists and 2 other STP trainees. The department is very experienced in clinical scientist training, having hosted a trainee almost every year for over 20 years. There are regular journal club meetings with the clinical scientists and chemical pathologists across the Network.

STP trainees are based at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford with opportunities to spend time at Canterbury, Margate and the other hospitals within the Network. There will also be work placements at London teaching hospitals. All travel will be funded for visits to other sites.
East Kent is a delightful place to live with a fantastic coastline, beautiful countryside and villages, the cathedral city of Canterbury and excellent transport links to London.

Clinical Engineering – East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust

Clinical Engineering at East Kent Hospitals is based in Canterbury, and our Trust runs a hopper bus service for staff to travel to the other main sites.

We are able to offer rigorous training and experience in Medical Device Risk Management and Governance, and in Assistive Technology Assessment and Provision.

Our wider Trust is very welcoming of trainees wishing to gain experience in Medical Device Management and Maintenance, Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Physics, Cardiology, Respiratory Sciences, and Audiology.

You will be supported to travel to other NHS Trusts nationally for placements in areas that we are not able to offer locally, such as Clinical Scientific Computing, Medical Device Design, and other aspects of Rehabilitation Engineering and Physiological Measurements that you may wish to gain experience in.
