Clinical Biochemistry – Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The 2 pathology laboratory sites at Cheltenham and Gloucester hospitals serve a population of over 600,000 and over 100 GP surgeries, generating over 1,000,000 requests per annum (10.8 million tests). We support a wide range of Biochemistry assays, and have strong links to clinicians and services in primary and secondary care.
The staff mix of the Clinical Biochemistry department includes 2 Consultant Chemical Pathologists, 1 Specialist Registrar, 4 Clinical Scientists, 35 qualified biomedical scientists and trainees, medical laboratory assistants and clerical staff.
The STP trainee will be expected to work flexibly but will mainly be based at the Gloucester Royal site. We have a strong history in training people via the STP and HSST programmes, and are committed to ensuring people complete the program with the skills need to excel in their future careers. Trainees will be expected to travel within the Southwest network for more specialist placements when required.

Radiation Safety and Diagnostic Radiology – Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The Diagnostic Radiology Physics department is based in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, and this is where you will spend most of your time in the 2nd and 3rd year of the programme. Other Medical Physics departments that you will visit during your first year are based in Cheltenham General Hospital. The two acute sites are part of the same Hospital Trust and there is a 99 bus service that is free for staff that operates between the two sites every 30 mins during normal working hours. Some aspects of the first year training may involve short visits to other centres in the south west and during the specialist rotation you will get the opportunity to visit off site community hospitals and private customer premises.
