The post is primarily based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, located in the centre of Basingstoke. We have a long-established history of training students and have successfully supported the STP for many years.

Basingstoke Hospital has a large, purpose-built cardiac centre for adult cardiology, with two cardiac catheterisation laboratories including an electrophysiology lab. Our highly skilled multidisciplinary team adopts cutting-edge technology and techniques to deliver the highest standard of care for our patients. The service delivers regular outpatient echocardiography clinics across three sites, alongside a comprehensive inpatient echocardiography service. We also provide transoesophageal echocardiography and stress echocardiography.

The role includes cross-site working. A Trust-operated shuttle bus runs between the two sites.

Our training consortium offers a supportive learning environment, bringing together experienced mentors from across departments and fellow Cardiac trainees. We provide training across all required aspects of the STP Cardiac Science modules (CRM and Echocardiography) within the Trust.

The STP trainee will be required to work flexibly across all sites, with the majority of training delivered at Winchester and Basingstoke to ensure exposure to the full range of respiratory and sleep physiology investigations and first year rotations, ensuring a comprehensive training experience. Travel between sites will be expected as part of the role. Where possible, a larger proportion of shifts will be allocated at the site closest to the trainee’s home address to support work–life balance.
