Andrology – Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) offers an exciting opportunity to undertake the Scientist Training Programme (STP) in Andrology. The trainee will be primarily based at Saint Mary’s Hospital, part of the Oxford Road Campus in central Manchester, which hosts a well-established Andrology and Reproductive Medicine laboratory.
All placements are held at MFT as rotations are all covered within the Trust.
MFT supports the full Andrology STP curriculum. Site-specific facilities include a UKAS-accredited Andrology laboratory, advanced microscopy, cryopreservation facilities, and close integration with fertility and reproductive medicine services.

Cardiac Science – Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
We are supporting two STP trainees one will be based at Manchester Royal Infirmary the other at Wythenshawe Hospital. Trainees will be expected to travel between sites across Greater Manchester to allow them to access to all services required to support Year 1 rotations. In years two and three you will mainly travel between the two main base sites.
There is good bus and tram connections across Greater Manchester which help travel to all sites including community sites.

Clinical Biochemistry – Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
This STP post will be based at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) with Wythenshawe Hospital as the main base. Rotations will take place within the Trust at our Wythenshawe, Trafford, and Oxford Road Campus sites. Additional visits may be arranged to other Trusts within the Greater Manchester Pathology Network to gain experience of assays not carried out within MFT such as drugs of abuse analysis and Downs screening. Car parking is available on all sites and there are public transport links to all hospitals.

The trainee will join the Neurogastroenterology unit at the Wythenshawe site. We are a specialist , multi-disciplinary and experienced team carrying out the diagnostic testing on patients with complex gastrointestinal conditions. You will develop close working relationships with other disciplines including gastrointestinal surgeons, functional bowel service, obstetrics and gynaecology, GI radiology, Urodynamics and Cardiology or Respiratory/Sleep, depending on your choice for rotation.

Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics – Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
We are offering an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated trainee to join our busy laboratory in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I). The Transplantation Laboratory at Manchester Royal Infirmary supports regional kidney, pancreas, islet, heart, lung, cornea and haemopoietic stem cell transplant programmes and HLA typing for disease diagnosis and management. Training rotations will involve working in other blood sciences departments on-site within the Trust.
We are one of the largest H&I laboratories in the UK with an excellent training record and we take pride in encouraging career focused scientists to fulfil their potential.
Post qualification and registration with the HCPC, our centre offers excellent opportunities for higher training for individuals with a drive to study for HSST and FRCPath qualifications.

Urodynamic Science – Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
The trainee will primarily be based in the Urogynaecology department at St Mary’s Hospital, part of Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT), for most components of the course. However, regular travel to Wythenshawe and Withington Hospitals in South Manchester will be required for male-specific urodynamics and certain gastrointestinal physiology components. Occasionally, the trainee may need to visit hospitals outside of MFT to complete competencies and gain experience in advanced investigations. Public transport links between MFT sites are available, and cycling is also an option.

Vascular Science – Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
You will be primarily based at the main Vascular Laboratory within the Trust (Manchester Royal Infirmary). Depending on service requirements and training needs, you may need to rotate between hospital sites where vascular diagnostic services are provided. These sites are linked by good public transport. You will be required to travel regularly and rotate through hospitals, to support completion of the curriculum and learning outcomes.
The Trust is part of a regional Vascular Science training consortium, providing access to a broad range of clinical experience across multiple sites. This collaborative approach ensures exposure to a comprehensive caseload and specialist services.
The Trust offers full training, including arterial and venous duplex ultrasound, ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) measurement, graft surveillance, carotid studies, and support for vascular outpatient/inpatient services. Specialist elements may be delivered at partner consortium sites.
You will have access to fully equipped vascular laboratories with modern ultrasound systems, reporting software, and PACS integration.
