This post is mainly based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. Some of the training (up to one day per week) is carried out at outstations at local hospitals. These are all accessible by public transport from Reading. The first year rotations are mainly based in Reading but there may be occasional visits to commutable places such as Oxford.

Clinical Biochemistry – Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

The main base will be the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, which is part of the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) network. The BSPS laboratories provide routine and specialist services both locally and nationally. The trainee will benefit from the experience of a wide range of routine services on site, as well as spending time at other sites within the BSPS pathology network to gain further routine and specialist expertise. To cover the Clinical Immunology rotation, the trainee will have to visit the BSPS Immunology laboratory based at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey. To cover the Genetics/Genomics rotation, the trainee will have to visit the Molecular Diagnostics laboratory based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. A Paediatric placement will be based at Synnovis, London. We are a friendly and welcoming team and the scope of our clinical and diagnostic services ensures our trainees receive full support in developing their knowledge and expertise.

The trainee will be based in the Clinical Engineering office in the historic North Block at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. In order to complete rotations, there will be travel required to Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust who are part of our consortium. The trainee will have access to all Trust facilities including: A wellbeing centre which contains a small gym and quiet spaces. Online wellbeing support including a seasonal self-help publication and a well provisioned Employee Assistance Programme. We are part of an active STP Network within the consortium which provides social and academic advantages.

The Nuclear Medicine Department is a friendly team, situated in the Royal Berkshire Hospital in the middle of Reading where most of your training will take place. We also provide support to a site in Wycombe.

There’s an exciting opportunity for an STP Trainee in Radiotherapy Physics to join our friendly team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS FT.

Radiotherapy equipment in our Department currently includes four Elekta linear accelerators equipped with 4D-CBCT and AlignRT SGRT, two wide-bore CT scanners with SimRT supporting 4D and breath-hold capture, an orthovoltage unit and an HDR Brachytherapy unit – we also provide an LDR Brachytherapy service.
