We are a team of predominantly Clinical Scientists which is great for learning and developing your skills. Our department offers training in Paediatric and Vestibular Audiology. Our STP trainees complete their Adult Audiology rotations at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. During your time at UHS, you will be predominantly working at our main site at the Royal South Hants hospital in Southampton. We also have outstation clinics in Millbrook, Weston, and the New Forest, so you will need to be able to travel between sites.

Cardiac Science – University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
We are one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England and a regional major surgical centre. We are located predominantly on a single site where the Technical Cardiology Unit is made up of a team of over 75 Clinical Physiologists/ support staff.
Although the STP will primarily focus on the adult population, UHS provides services to both adult and paediatric populations, providing a breadth of exposure to a varied case mix. Southampton is an attractive place to live and work, with an international airport, direct trains to London, The New Forest National Park and Jurassic coast beaches nearby. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
We have supported STP trainees almost every year since the creation of the course and have high expectations of trainees where we will support our trainees to the highest levels.

Genomic Counselling – University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
The Wessex Clinical Genetics Service (WCGS) serves a population of over 3 million patients across the region. The WCGS department is located at the Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton, which is the base hospital for STP trainees in Genomic Counselling. Clinical Genetics clinics take place across UHS sites and peripheral hospitals in Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset. STP trainees are expected to arrange their own travel to and from clinics, and rotational elements of training that may take place away from the base hospital. We are an experienced training centre and have recruited at least 1 STP trainee in Genomic Counselling each year since the programme was established.

Histopathology – University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
Trainees will be based within Cellular Pathology at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). They will undertake rotations within the host department and across other relevant scientific services, including Cancer Genomics at UHS, in order to fulfil the required work-based pathway curricula.
All trainees will be expected to travel to national academic and other courses regularly throughout their training – in some cases this may involve overnight and/or residential stays.

Medical Physics (undefined) – University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
We are seeking four enthusiastic physicists to join the well-established and friendly Medical Physics team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). The Medical Physics Department supports large Radiology (including Nuclear Medicine) and Radiotherapy services within UHS, as well as a wide range of external clients. With continued investment in clinical innovation and research, the next 1-2 years will bring exciting opportunities as new cutting-edge imaging and therapy equipment comes online.
We are delighted to offer one post for each of the four Medical Physics specialisms and final allocation is made by the end of the rotational placements accommodating trainee preferences where possible. The role includes some travel to other sites including significant amounts of time at King’s College London for the MSc.
