Become a healthcare science Ambassador

STEM Ambassador

NHS healthcare science ambassadors help to:

  • Run science and engineering clubs;
  • Provide careers guidance and mentoring to interested students;
  • Facilitate NHS work based placements for both teachers and students.

As an ambassador you would give as little as half a day a year to help promote healthcare science as a profession, while also sharing your enthusiasm about a science career in the NHS. It is not a big time committment but it can make a big difference in your area, particularly to young people in schools and colleges. You could get involved in:

  • Mentoring and careers talks
  • Science festivals and fairs
  • Community and youth groups
  • STEM Club activities

You will also benefit by increasing your confidence in your presentation skills, and gaining a sense of achievement and satisfaction with the work you are doing.

University careers fairs

We attend University careers fairs up and down the country and talk to students about the STP and HSST programmes.

We are always looking for volunteers to represent us at these events and will email you about any opportunities at nearby Universities.

If you are yet to complete OneFile competencies in professional practice and clinical leadership then representing the School at this event could be used as evidence towards fulfilling some of them.

Healthcare science week

Healthcare science week is an annual week of celebration and awareness-raising for the many careers in healthcare science. It provides healthcare science professionals with an opportunity to promote their profession and inspire the scientific workforce of the future.

Getting involved in healthcare science week is easy and there are many ways you can take part. Your trust could have a stand in a public area or the foyer of the hospital, give a presentation in a school or college, or invite school and college students into one of the healthcare science departments.
