The following must be provided as evidence.
- A trainee’s self-evaluation of engagement and development on the programme and their progress to date.
- An evaluation by the trainee’s workplace supervisor of their engagement with the programme and their progress to date.
- A portfolio of evidence demonstrating achievement against the HSS Standards of Proficiency (SoPs).
- Engagement and progress on the academic component; this must be appropriate to a trainee’s pathway/stage through the programme.
- Evidence of completion of a multi-source feedback exercise/360 appraisal recommended to inform professional development.
We recommend that you and your workplace supervisor schedule a meeting prior to the Annual Review of Progression to review the training plan and discuss progress. A post review meeting will also be necessary to discuss the outcomes and update the training plan as appropriate.
Multi-Source Feedback and the Annual Review of Progression
Multi-Source Feedback assessments provide an opportunity to obtain feedback from a range of colleagues and to reflect on this feedback. It is always useful, and especially so at this level, to understand how others perceive you. Completing and reflecting on a Multi-Source Feedback assessment allows you to identify development needs you may not be aware of and can also provide evidence towards some standards of proficiency (SoP).
Completion of a Multi-Source Feedback assessment isn’t an absolute requirement of the HSST as it is for the STP, so you do not need to complete one prior to the review. However, Multi-Source Feedback assessments are beneficial professionally and in meeting the SoP, so we strongly recommend that you complete a couple at points in your programme most useful to you.
You will need to register with Agilio Feedback, the online service we use to enable you to conduct your Multi-Source Feedback assessments. Guidance is available on registering with Agilio Feedback and some common tasks.
Are there targets to meet prior to each review?
Unlike the Scientist Training Programme there is not a set OneFile completion target at each Annual Review of Progression. It is important to note that the OneFile ‘target’ associated with the HSST portfolio is a percentage of progress of time on the 5-year programme and not really a target for OneFile completion.
The HSST SoP are high level, and it is likely that more will be signed off later in the programme and we do not expect a particular percentage signed off on OneFile each year.
However, we do expect engagement with OneFile throughout the programme and evidence should be uploaded continuously to demonstrate development. For example, in year 1 you may upload evidence of attending a meeting, by year 3 you will have evidence of presenting at that meeting, and by year 5 you will have evidence of chairing that meeting.
Your targets for the academic and professional qualification will be dependent on your bespoke training plan, so you will be asked if you have met, are on target to meet or expecting barriers to progression for each aspect.
