ETP Completion 2027
We hope you are well and have enjoyed the ETP so far. For trainees who commenced on programme in September 2025 you will now be coming to the end of year 1 so the end of your programme is only 6 months away.
We thought we would remind you of the completion requirements and deadline so you can make sure you can prepare accordingly. We will be following this up via email to make sure you have all of the information you need together with some further hints and tips on how to ensure you can complete the programme successfully.
Completion requirements
Unless you have an approved extension via the school’s Exceptional Extenuating Circumstances policy (EEC) or the university, you should be aiming to have achieved the following by Monday 5 April 2027 at 5pm.
1. 100% completion of your e-portfolio – OneFile
- Module A-CS-S1 – Introduction to Clinical Echocardiography
- Module SPS121 – Ultrasound Imaging in Cardiac Disease
2. A pass in the PGCert in Clinical Echocardiography
3. Accreditation with the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) – theory and practical examinations
- Level 2 Transthoracic Accreditation Process

Sharing Good Practice webinar
Reflective practice through verbal dialogue: a case study from a Medical Physics STP
Wednesday 16 September 2026 – 9:30am to 11am
Deirbhile Sharkey, an STP trainee and Jonathan Cole, their STP Training Officer, will describe how they co-developed a technique for reflective practice through verbal dialogue. They found that this was not only straightforward and time-efficient, but also beneficial for both learning and reflecting on work practices within the wider department.

Shape the future of the ETP curriculum
This academic year’s curriculum rolling review is now starting and we are looking for a Lead Editor for the ETP curriculum. This is your opportunity to use your specialty expertise to ensure the ETP curriculum remains current and useful.

Trainees and Training Officers, there is still time to submit feedback on the ETP curriculum to inform this year’s rolling review. Feedback can be submitted through the Curriculum Library until Friday 18 September. Feedback received after this date will be considered in the following review cycle.

OCSO Healthcare Science webinar – Research
The Office of the Chief Scientific Officer (OCSO) at NHS England would like to invite you to a healthcare science webinar series. The purpose of these webinars is to provide the latest information and engage with healthcare scientists on relevant topics.

ETP Induction 2026
We are holding the 2026 ETP Induction Day online via Teams on Thursday 22 October – 9:30am to 3:30pm. View the agenda for the day.
Trainees joining the ETP in October will need to attend this key event as part of their induction to the training programme.
ETP Train the Trainer webinar
Wednesday 11 November 2026 – 10am to 1pm
If you are new to the role of ETP Training Officer, you are expected to attend this train the trainer webinar which will introduce you to the programme and your responsibilities.

NHS England launches Educator Development Fundamentals framework
The Educator Development Fundamentals framework has been published to support the development of healthcare educators across all professions in the NHS workforce.
It sets out 9 core capability areas covering skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for high-quality education, supervision and assessment, from supporting safe care and inclusive practice to digital capability and continuing professional development.
The guide can be used by educators to identify development needs, by employers to support workforce planning, and by commissioners to inform service specifications.
With thanks to the broad range of organisations across healthcare, education and regulatory sectors we’ve worked with to produce the guide including, NHS trusts, ICBs, universities, professional regulators (the GPC and GMC), and ambulance services.
