Information for trainees
Are you interested in volunteering for the HSST Induction 2025?
We are holding the Higher Specialist Scientist Training Programme Induction Day online via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday 7 October 2025.
As part of the agenda, we have planned a session with a panel of trainees. We are looking for panel members to provide advice to new trainees and answer questions from the audience.
This is a fantastic opportunity for trainees to develop their public speaking skills and support the new intake starting in October.
If you would like to volunteer to be on the panel of trainees at induction this year, please complete this expression of interest form.
Leaders Plus NHS Fellowship Programme for Working Parents
The Leaders Plus NHS Fellowship is a supportive leadership career development programme for NHS leaders with children who are ambitious in their careers.
Too often, parents feel they must choose between an ambitious career and enjoying their young children. Too many see their career and earnings stall after having children even though their ambitions remain.
Designed specifically for NHS clinical and non-clinical staff who are passionate about career development and have young children, the Leaders Plus NHS Fellowship Programme supports parents working in the health service to progress at work into senior leadership positions whilst also balancing commitments as a parent.

HSST accreditation – annual monitoring to recommence in July
Our annual monitoring return will be recommencing using our revised process from Monday 28 July 2025. All departments accredited on or before 28 July 2024 (including reaccredited departments) are required to complete annual monitoring as part of their accreditation. If you have been accredited or reaccredited for a specialty within the last year, you are exempt from completing the return for that specialty only.
If you are part of a consortium, hub or network that delivers HSST training, the appropriate contact will be emailed separately to complete the return on behalf of the whole consortium, hub or network.
Annual monitoring will be conducted in the form of an online questionnaire, which will be sent to you on Monday 28 July 2025. The academic year you will need to report on is from September 2024 to August 2025.
We ask for details of any changes that may have influenced or affected the delivery of training. These include:
- staffing and organisational changes
- changes to training planning and the availability of resources
- engagement in the ‘HSST Train the Trainer’ webinar
- challenges encountered in delivering the HSST programme
- support provided for equality, diversity and inclusion
If you have already notified the School of changes for this period through our change notification process, you are not required to report these changes again.
If you have not notified the School of any changes for this period or would like to notify us of a future change, please download and complete the Change Notification form and any additional relevant forms.
