STP Final Year Assessment outcomes released

We have now provided all trainees who sat the STP Final Year Assessment with their outcome.

This information was sent from england.nshcs.assessment@nhs.net. If you have not received this information, please let us know.

You can find out more about how your assessment outcome has been determined on the School website.

If you have not been successful, you should read the guidance about preparing to re-sit the assessment.

RCPath Trainees’ Research Medal Awards

The Royal College of Pathologists are pleased to announce that the Trainees’ Research Medal Awards 2025 are now open for submissions.

This represents an opportunity to gain further recognition for research efforts.

The College’s Trainees’ Research Medals are awarded annually for outstanding research work undertaken by pathologists or scientists in training. Medals are awarded for research published in the relevant year (1 July 2024 – 30 June 2025).

The awards are open to all members of the Royal College of Pathologists (including trainees and scientists) employed in a suitable specialty training or appropriate research/academic post during the year the submitted paper was published. The research paper must either have been either published or accepted for publication by a peer-reviewed journal.

Information for training officers

STP Final Year Assessment outcomes released

We have now provided all trainees who sat the STP Final Year Assessment with their outcome.

Where trainees have failed the assessment, this will be shared with Training Officers.

If your trainee has not received their outcome, please ask your trainee to contact us.

You can find out more about how your assessment outcomes are determined on the School website.

If required, more information has been provided to trainees about about preparing to re-sit the assessment.

STP Induction 2025

We are holding the Scientist Training Programme Induction online via Microsoft Teams. It will be held over 2 half-days:

  • Day 1 – ‘Becoming a healthcare scientist’ will take place on Wednesday 10 September
  • Day 2 – ‘Managing your programme’ will take place on Thursday 11 September

On both days the events will start at 9:30am and approximately finish at 1:15pm.

As part of the STP Induction 2025 package trainees are required to attend a series of post induction webinars. The links to register for these will be sent directly to all trainees on the afternoon of Thursday 11 September. The dates for the post-induction webinars are as follows:

Tuesday 16 September 2025 – 4pm to 5pm

Webinar 2. Getting to know the OneFile e-portfolio service
Thursday 18 September 2025 – 4pm to 5pm

Webinar 3. Progression expectations and reviews

Webinar 4. Question and answer session with panel of Training Programme Directors and School Heads of Functions
Thursday 25 September 2025 – 4pm to 5pm

Are you interested in supporting the STP Induction 2025?

We recently reached out to professional bodies to provide representatives to join us on day 2 of the induction – Thursday 11 September 2025 from 12:15pm to 1pm. This will be an opportunity for trainees to network with relevant professional bodies and to hear about the benefits of joining and how they can get involved. The networking sessions will be held online and volunteers will be allocated their own networking space via a Microsoft Teams link.

We currently have no confirmed representation for the following professional bodies:

  • British Blood Transfusion Society
  • British Sleep Society (BSS)
  • British Society for Immunology
  • Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)

If you are able to attend as a representative for one of these professional bodies, please complete this short survey to register your interest. We will send direct links to the allocated networking space in the coming months.

Do you need to attend the STP Induction for new trainers webinar?

If you are new to the role of STP training officer, you are expected to attend an induction webinar which will introduce you to the programme and your responsibilities. You are welcome to attend this live webinar even if you have received certification for engaging with the recording of the previous one. Assessors are also welcome to attend. The details are as follows:

Call for Expressions of Interest: National Healthcare Science Clinical Leads

The Academy for Healthcare Science is delighted to invite expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for these four national roles: Healthcare Science Clinical Lead for England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

These senior national leadership roles are central to the vision and strategy of the Academy and are supported directly by the President. As agreed by the Professional Bodies Council, the four National Clinical Leads ensure representation from all four nations on the AHCS Professional Bodies Council (PBC) and may deputise for the President as required.

Role overview

The National Healthcare Science Clinical Leads provide country-specific leadership and are responsible for:

  • Promoting and implementing the AHCS strategy and policies within their respective countries.
  • Representing the collective professional views of the AHCS to government, media, and key stakeholders.
  • Championing innovation, equality, and professional development in Healthcare Science.
  • Ensuring a four-country perspective is embedded into national and UK-wide work.
  • Representing the AHCS at national events, maintaining a professional media presence, and engaging with professional and trainee scientists.

Application process

  • Interested candidates should contact william.smith@ahcs.ac.uk to request an application form.
  • Completed application forms must be returned to william.smith@ahcs.ac.uk by 22 August 2025, accompanied by a letter of endorsement from the applicant’s professional body. Late submissions will not be accepted.
  • Applications will be reviewed by the President and PBC to ensure eligibility.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal meeting with the President and AHCS CEO.
  • Successful candidates will be notified in writing by 3 October 2025.
