Leadership courses and fellowships open to healthcare scientists

We've gathered together some of the opportunities available to healthcare scientists.

LEEP (Leading through Education to Excellent Patient care) Leadership Programme

Free leadership training open to HSST trainees and STP Alumni (in the first instance).

You will attend 4 webinars and have to complete a change management project in a group. You will need to be willing to attend all elements of the course and be open to running the course for other attendees, specifically year 2 STP trainees starting from September 21.

You will need to attend 1 date for each webinar out of the below. The training will be done on Microsoft Teams between 9.30 – 1.30. The webinars will be interactive with break out rooms for discussion and then feeding back to the whole group. There will also be pre course material including videos, podcasts and a reflective journal.

Please email nshcs@hee.nhs.uk with your preferred date for each webinar, your organisation and role by 31st March if you wish to attend.

NHS Leadership Academy

The NHS Leadership Academy provides leadership development for people of all backgrounds and experiences across health and care.

Mary Seacole

100 hours of online study, plus three face-to-face behavioural workshops delivered locally. Leads to an NHS Leadership Academy Award in Healthcare Leadership.

Rosalind Franklin

For clinical and non-clinical middle leaders aspiring to lead large and complex programmes, departments, services or systems of care. Minimum of 4-5 hours time commitment per week, learning methods are online along with face-to-face workshops and facilitated impact groups.

Elizabeth Garratt Anderson

For middle to senior-level leaders aspiring to take on a more senior role while, at the same time, looking to have a wider impact. Leads to an MSc in Healthcare Leadership and NHS Leadership Award in Senior Healthcare Leadership.

Nye Bevan

Supports senior leaders to move beyond leadership within their area of professional expertise, into executive roles that span organisational boundaries. Accelerates individuals into executive roles, helping them perform better at board level, and help boards better meet challenges today and enable change for tomorrow. Leads to an NHS Leadership Academy Award in Executive Healthcare Leadership.

Stepping Up

Leadership development programme for black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) colleagues working in bands 5 to 7 or equivalent. Runs across four or five residential dates depending on banding.
