Outcome/statement	Descriptor
1 – Progress satisfactory	Progression requirements met. No significant issues or concerns identified. Trainee is in a good position to progress to next year of training. Trainee and training department are commended for their efforts in actively engaging with the Scientist Training Programme
2a – Progress mostly satisfactory	Progression requirements mostly met. Minor issues identified that should be resolved with a local action plan developed and managed between trainee and Training Officer Trainee and training department are acknowledged for their efforts in actively engaging with the Scientist Training Programme.
2b – Progress mostly satisfactory: some concerns	Progression requirements have not been met and several issues are identified. This should be resolved with regular reviews of progress between trainee and Training Officer with a training plan which addresses the issues identified. Trainee and training department are acknowledged for their efforts in engaging with the Scientist Training Programme.
3 – Progress not satisfactory	Progression requirements have not been met and there are concerns about trainees ability to progress to the next year of training. Trainee and Training Officer will be required to attend a meeting with the school to explore the issues affecting progress further so that appropriate advice and support can be offered. This may require development of an action plan with timed objectives so that progress can be further monitored and supported. Trainees will be expected to actively participate and address the progression shortfall where they are able to do so e.g., if health and wellbeing matters impact on progress this may not be possible.
5 – Trainee is not making progress for known reasons	Trainee and/or training department has previously been referred to the school who is actively managing with trainee and/or training department.
