4. Embed equality, diversity and inclusion into training

It is essential for you to practise professionally and clinically in a way that upholds and enhances equality, diversity, and inclusion. It is also critical for your trainer to practice inclusivity, ensuring that you can fully access all aspects of your training without prejudice or limitations.

What are your responsibilities as a trainee?

Your responsibilities are to:

  • Know your employer’s equality, diversity and inclusion policy and practices.
  • Engage in relevant mandatory training.
  • Be open about what your needs are as a learner to support your trainer in providing you with the best training experience.
  • Familiarise yourself with the HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Clinical Scientists; the NHS Constitution and its values; the AHCS Good Scientific Practice and the HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
  • Ask questions if you are not sure about embedding equality, diversity and inclusion into your training.
  • Be aware of your own biases and how to challenge them.

Further training on conscious inclusion can be found on the NHS Learning Hub.
