Applying to the programme

resources

Applicants must read all relevant guidance, important documents and FAQ’s relating to the STP application process before commencing their application. The application requires personal, academic, work experience, employment and equality and diversity details and has a free text section for supporting information to demonstrate suitability for the programme.

In-service applicants do not need to choose a location, as they can only apply for the training place for which their current employer is sponsoring them. Applicants will need to confirm the preference/scientific specialty and employer as part of the application.

In-service applications open at 11am, Wednesday 5 March 2025 and close at 4pm, Thursday 27 March 2025.

Internal selection process and interview

In-service applicants do not go through longlisting or shortlisting because they are already substantive NHS employees and have already gone through recruitment and selection processes for their current posts.

For STP recruitment 2025, in-service applicants will not be interviewed by the National School of Healthcare Science. All applicants who meet the requirements and are sponsored by their department will be accepted on the programme. Therefore, the employer will need to provide written confirmation of having carried out appropriate local recruitment and selection processes against the person specification. Employers should email the recruitment team at england.hcsrecruitment@nhs.net confirming that they have conducted a local interview and that, in their professional view, the applicant meets the person specification. The email must include the in-service nomination form and the applicants’ qualifications and must be sent by a senior manager in the department. The School will then issue the in-service application code.
