Message from Training Programme Director

This month’s message is from Jane Lynch:

Welcome to the ETP memo for July. I hope you are all well and training is progressing as expected, for both trainees and training officers.

I want to encourage you all to look after your health and wellbeing by ensuring a good work-life balance, and making sure your training plan is working throughout the programme. As the university work comes to an end, you will all be concentrating on your work-based training, completing your competencies and assessments on OneFile and working towards the BSE Practical assessment. There are lots of resources available to support you in this on our website, where you will find the completion requirements for April 2024. You will be required to take the BSE Assessment by the end of March and there are Practical assessments dates on January 28 2024 and 2 days in March 2024 (23 and 24). More information can be found here. Please ensure you register as soon as this is available. The BSE website includes resources to support you to be successful, including advice on getting the video cases right.

We have been experiencing some lovely sunny weather here in Manchester making it much easier to enjoy outdoor pursuits. I hope you all have some exciting plans for the summer to balance out the hard work you are putting in. As always, please contact the School if you have any queries or concerns we can help you with.

Universities that deliver the ETP

We are pleased to include a new Higher Education Institute (HEI) for 2023. The University of the West of England in Bristol will be taking the number of HEIs delivering this programme to three.

ETP trainees are allocated a place at a HEI on a regional basis. For 2023, trainees will be allocated to the HEIs as below:

  • Manchester Metropolitan University – North West
  • University of Newcastle – North East and Yorkshire, East of England and Midlands
  • University of the West of England – London, South West and South East.

Update on the curriculum review

The ETP Curriculum Review Group met for the first time at the end of June and it was great to meet everyone.

The group, which includes echocardiography professionals from a range of backgrounds, got stuck into discussion about the ETP curriculum. The conversation focused on the modules for the ETP and comparative modules in the STP and the appropriateness of each for the distinct purposes of the ETP. The group will meet again at the end of the month to continue the conversation.
