We are a national organisation embedded within and funded by Health Education England.
The School acts as a hub for healthcare scientists delivering training across the NHS, producing scientists who are changing patient and clinical outcomes, contributing to multi-professional and integrated working, and leading in many areas of innovation and translational research within the NHS.
Our functions are:
Implementation of the National Assessment Strategy, including:
Provision of a national e-portfolio service
Monitoring of trainee progress
Assisting trainees in difficulty
Development of Objective Structured Final Assessments (OSFAs) in partnership with Professional Bodies
Awarding of the Certificate of Completion of the work based training programme
Provision of a national Train the Trainer Strategy
Responsible for annual national recruitment to the STP
Liaison with Universities and NHS departments providing the training to ensure compatible delivery of the programmes
Delivery of National Quality Assessment Management Programme including accreditation of all departments delivering work based training
Advice on curricula development and review
Working with the national commissioner on workforce planning and provision
Liaise and work in partnership with the Academy for Healthcare Science
