Outcome statements for the HSST Annual Review of Progression

A HSST trainee will receive one of these six outcome statements for their Annual Review of Progression.

The outcome statements

1 – Progress satisfactory

  • Review of progression evidence indicates satisfactory progression for this stage of training. Some follow up actions may be requested.
  • No concerns or barriers to progression have been highlighted and the trainee is in a good position to continue on programme.
  • Trainee and training department are commended for their efforts in actively engaging with the Higher Specialist Scientist Training Programme.

2 – Progress mostly satisfactory

  • Review of progression evidence indicates mostly satisfactory progression for this stage of training with some minor concerns or barriers highlighted. Comments indicate that these are being addressed locally.
  • Trainee should contact the School if support/advice required. Some follow up actions may be required.
  • Trainee and training department are acknowledged for their efforts in actively engaging with the Higher Specialist Scientist Training Programme.

3 – Evidence shows that progress is not as anticipated for this stage on programme

  • Review of progression evidence indicates major concerns/barriers regarding progress on programme, potentially placing the trainee’s continuation on programme at risk.
  • It is acknowledged that this may be due to either the trainee’s engagement with the programme or issues with essential provision.
  • We will contact the trainee and their workplace supervisor for further clarification and arrange a support meeting if appropriate.

4 – Complete evaluation of progression form not received from either trainee or their workplace supervisor

  • The review could not be carried out as either the trainee or their workplace supervisor has not submitted their evaluation of progression form.
  • Trainee and/or workplace supervisor will be required to complete a non-compliance form justifying their reasons. We will follow up as appropriate.

5 – Review evidence not expected

  • We have been informed of trainee’s leave of absence from the programme.
  • Trainee to inform us on return to programme and review will be conducted at the next available opportunity and as appropriate to the term of absence.

6 – Progression outcome not definable

  • Previously identified issues/concerns are being actively managed by us in discussion with trainee and/or workplace supervisor.
